Sharp knives are much much safer than blunt ones.

#6
Eeek! Imagine if you slipped!!

They could've at least provided a handy pouch attachment for your fingers to drop into to save time trying to find them...
#7
Hot. I've actually got one of these and i'll be honest they're bloody TERRIFYING to use!
#8
That's tremendous!
#9
It looks like a mini guillotine for your fingers.

At least the knife should be sharp for a nice clean cut!
#10
Eeeekkk, that does not look safe "accident waiting to happen" springs to mind

Sheesh....

That's got to be a wind up?
#13
Come on you whimps, where is your sense of adventure? Besides if you can't keep the knife in the groove provided you shouldn't be handling sharp instruments...
#14
At some point during the design phase surely a friend or work mate should have raised the question "what happens if the knife slips". Surely a candidate for the Darwin Awards!
#15
Odd, me and the OH were just discussing sharpening our knives last night when we were cookin chilli

Agreed. The box contains the phrase "Designed, tested and used by dime-bars" :whistling:

esp dangerous if you happen to be the sort who likes the odd glass (bottle) of wine while cooking......

"Multi purpose sharpener"

It doesnt sharpen pencils. But on the other hand it looks to have sharpened the wit of a people on this site :p
#18
wow!! being in design myself, that has to be one of the funniest stupidly-dangerous designs i've ever seen!!
#19
LOL Danmc. :) I feel certain that your picture isn't too far from the truth! Anyone got a thread for fingerless gloves?
#20
stupid design. even more stupid people who buy it! lol
#21
Glad to see it's not just me then, I actually sent the link to Trading Standards, no reply yet!

No, I don't have anything better to do :P
#22
presume self-harmers wear it around the wrist?
is there a disclaimer?

Come on you whimps, where is your sense of adventure?

Hmm, spose it could be quite a laugh, what with the searching for ice cubes, and rushing to hospital, not to mention the 4 hour wait at A&E!

Lets hope the guys who made this, don't R&D anything else.
#26
Finger licking good..............not

I can not believe the idiot who designed this, goes against all common sense from my engineering backround
#27

I got two of these a few years back, they are great, the best sharpner I have used. The instructions were opposite i.e. the knife stationary and draw the sharpener along the blade.
#29
What I want to know is where is his thumb
#30
There's a reason why it's 99p. No thanks, I value my fingers!!

Same here

I have to admit I bought one thinking 'how useful!'
But like most things I've bought when I think that, it's sat in a drawer laughing at me ever since.
#35
Take another look at the product page - no fingers in sight now.

http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20080526.p.Multi-purpose_Sharpener.ar10

The photo has changed in the flyer too.

I guess that means it's perfectly safe so long as you don't use it as intended.

Maybe my message to Trading Standards helped, or maybe they read this thread....
#36
Unless it's just me they seem to have changed the picture on their website in the last hour to one without a hand in it.

My god, it gives me the willies just looking at it. I'd love to meet the burk that designed this.

Voted hot solely because it's way up there on my scary-o-meter :-D

#39
