Or £19.94 if you pick it up yourself : Working Link.

Probably a good buy, but not enough info on what size drives you can use with it. Typical Maplin.

Great find, considering freeview boxes are usually £15, for couple of quid more to have divx support is great!
#4

#8
Good price for the features, however it looks very cheap and nasty - anyone seen any reviews for it?

No actually it is very small but tacky looking. Good deal for what it is though.

Hmm.. this could be handy...

Does it have optical output for the audio?

And whats the Divx playback like? Does it support packed bits? (are some divx files jumpy?)

Without packed bitstream support, watching many xvid files downloaded from the net would be a problem and it's a hassle to have to unpack them first.

interesting find. I have a multimedia pc i usually use to play divx. This would remove the hassle of turning on the pc every time.

Some reviews would be good.

It's a bit ugly though.

Ugly enough to make me think twice of having it in my living room...

Very difficult to find in the shops, but online still has 93 available. Its also less than £20 if you can fill your order up to £35. I've ordered two to get free delivery.

I'm hoping the MPEG4 playback is ok, although as wozza said its about the same price as a bog standard freeview box anyway, so its worth a try.

You can tell how small it is by the picture, its a little bit taller than a USB socket and maybe three times the width of a compact flash card? In other words, its a tiny little thing!
#15
So can I record onto a usb external hard drive with this, or is this just for watching stuff that's already been recorded?

Packed bitstream can be unpacked in about 1 min using free software (mpeg4 modifier).
This s/w doesn't re-encode the film so it really quick.
I use it all the time and if you had to copy your film from your pc to a usb key, just use the sw and save the new file to usb.

This box looks good - will get one, cheers.

Sorry, the product you are searching for is no longer available (discontinued).

Sold out or incorrectly priced at a guess??

Just been into the store in bolton, and they are really quite petite tbh but they do only have one scart socket and only RF-in (i think it was, might have been out, sorry)
Was £19.94 in store to btw.
I didn't buy one

TDX doesn't allow packed bitstream, so the majority of files will be fine - it's only really "homemade" rips from p2p and stuff that maybe a problem.

You can unpack them with mp4modifier, but it's a pain with 100s of files.

looks like an interesting little box. Maplin seem to have lots of AV stuff in the sale atm.

:thumbsup:Thanks for the info just purchased one at my local Maplin for £19.98 have not set it up yet but is nice and compact .
#22
Do you know it it will play DVD VOB files?
#23
its very tiny dont let the large picture fool you.

thats what its for, just bang a divx on usb and your ready to go. when I receive, I will review it. packed bitstream arent watchable on some 80 plus divx players so to me this is a real bargain.
#24
ill review what it could play but im guessing it does play DVD VOBs as arent they just MPEG2?
banned#25
Yeah but it might not play the vob file structure. MPEG 2 is a different container.
#26
The VOB I tried to play stuttered. Looks like a bit-rate limitation because it was Ok in quiet sections. Still playing with it.
Had to re-format my 500GB disk into FAT32. Anybody know if I'm going to have problems with FAT32 at that size?

Did you get it working with the harddrive? I've just reformatted my 80gb to FAT32 but it doesn't find it. I've tried with SD cards and it works fine, and I've tried with a 1gb USB drive which also worked fine. :?
#28
Yes I did get it working with the harddrive Atarii. Put about 5GB of mixed file types on it in folders and it saw it all. Mpeg2, MP3 and Jpeg worked. Then moved onto trying the Set-Top-Box function of it.

Couldn't format it with XP (>32GB) so used FNeT Utilities FAT32 Format that I got hold of ages ago with another product.
#29
My 250gb HDD is near enough full. How do I format from NTSC to FAT32 without deleting everything?

let us know a bit more. try mpeg 1's and so on. Xvid. packed bitstreams if you can.

I got all of these available but the bloody thing aint arrived. Its despatched so im guessing im getting it early monday.
#31
Is Mpeg 1 the same as VCD? How would I know if an Xvid has packed bitstreams?

If I try to play a file that has been created by my TV tuner the sound is seconds out of sync but if I edit it first with Mpeg2Vcr it's OK. Don't know why.
#32
Can't get the damn thing to play Mpeg2 files in anything but 4:3 aspect. On the verge of giving up.
#33
well i just got it and out of the pack its brilliant. hope thats the case inside too.

One of the out of pack advantages is that its tiny as hell, charger is universal so I can take it on my worldwide travels. Theres a setting for PAL or NTSC so this is amazing. truly amazing to take home to family.
