good deal, i had this, just a note thou, myguide has gone bust, even thou this unit will last over a year there is no warranty with it.

not sure how it can be hacked, i never could get my one hacked.
#2
Their pretty easy to hack, I put igo 8 on my step dad's.

Just a note though

He had to return one because it froze and wouldn't get past the loading up screen, Also it wouldn't connect to pc to load the backup either.

His second one did the same, However he'd lost the receipt and Myguid had gone bust.

Luckily I fixed it, I had to flash it a new bootloader and is so far still working and running igo 8..!!

It should still come with a year's guarantee, so as MYGUIDE have gone bust, Amazon should provide a refund if a fault occurs within the year

I was thinking to install IGO onto the 4200. There are a lot of discussion on ebuyer about IGO on the 3100, but barely any information on the 4200. Anyone did that successfully?

Yup I got this bad boy and it works with iGO8! Will try it with Tomtom 7 this evening. Hot!!!

did you manage to get the screen mode to ws so all of it is used by the maps? and how did you manage to view the thing in vista explorer???

ok got it sorted....works nicely on the 4200 and using active sync to explore. For some reason my card reader doesn't work well with the sd card so this is a much better option. Now to have a go with tt.

EU regulations state that you have two years guarantee. UK retailers usually state one year, but believe me, it is two.

EU directive 1999/44/EC: this appears to give consumers a minimum of two years to take items back to the retailer for a repair or replacement. After a long stand-off, during which he was threatened with being ejected from the store, Tesco agreed to replace his TV.

I got this and thanks to Robot1000, its now using iGO 8.3, which is a much better GPS software imo. Was a bit tricky to find the maps etc but got it working in the end!

Thanks Robot.

Anyone know what format the Videos are that it can play?
#23
This does sound interesting - can anyone tell me if IGO8 has text to speech - i.e. it can announce road names etc?

thanks

I tried some normal avi's and it plays them perfectly. Don't know if you can shrink them with some sw and they will still play ok , but it's a good thing to try as you won't get many avi's on a 2 gb sd card.

I think iGO8 are by default loaded with TTS.

On other note, I felt that the battery life is short. Had an half and hour journey today and the battery charge dropped from fully charged to 50% already! How's everyone observation on battery life?

Yeah Battery sucks, but thats why it comes with a car charger! :p

As for the TTS, I can't see an option for it, and the simulated routes I'm taking to test it doesn't say the names.

Anyone know where its activated???

Thanks.

Click Settings, then Regional and then change Voice Profile to English (UK) - Kate (TTS)

I can highly recommend the Skin diMKA. It's got a very user friendly Layout and adds loads more features
#32
has anyone got tom tom working on this unit
#33
I have tried but always get an error message anbout the serial being wrong, so as igo8 works fine and everyone says it's the best of the two by far I just can't see the point spending time installing it. One thing that has surprised me is the fact I installed evrything on a 8gb sdhc card and it all works still.!!!! well it all boots up and I 've tested it for a couple of miles and it seems to work anyway.....:p
#34
when i had this, i did get tom tom to work but i used to get a debug screen to pop out once at the start of the journey.
so just thought they might have used a different way to install it.
#35
I have not been able to get tomtom to work either, still trying.
I have got Igo8 working however the image does not take up all of the screen. Any ideas how to make the image fit to screen would be appreciated.
Also where are people getting their software from?

Cheers

you have to edit the sys.txt file and put in [rawdisplay]
screen_x=320
screen_y=240
place it in the root of the sd card

this is a great place for all you need....

For TomTom 7
download this file: http://uploaded.to/?id=bb1hj8
extract and place all files on root of SD Card.
Thats it.
addons.txt is for iGO 8 and TomTom, if you have games or other stuff you will need to amend it.

Use the activator tool on the pctailer website to get the maps working.

Currenty I have IGO8, Amigo and Tomtom working perfectly on my unit

Does TomTom have any advantages over iGO8?

The simplicity aspect and the numerous voices available.

I've prefer IGO8 as it has TTS and a wide range of customised features

robot1000 - thanks for the upload , it works great - as long as you follow the instructions.:p as for the difference - igo 8 dumps on tomtom from a great height...but I'm glad to have been able to find that out for myself and wouldn't have if you hadn't helped out.!
