Note the marked price may be higher, but don't worry as this is the price they ring up at on the till and will be the price you pay. If it isn't I can't imagine ASDA would give any hassle with a refund anyway.

The included software (Turbo Dog) is crap and should be gotten rid of. For those who are technically minded look at http://simplesatnav.com/ The site has almost everything you need to put on a menu system that lets you choose from tomtom, igo8, and with a little modification Igo Amigo - and the last 2 it can run with Text-to-speech (announces street names instead of turn left, turn right). You need to register to access download section - you will need the v2 menu system and the widescreen modification. Takes a bit of effort fiddling to get it set up, so be prepared to fiddle a while, but when you get a sat nav with all this, well worth £30. :) Arguably better than a TomTom One XL and cheaper! For those who really want to fiddle about for ages with the latest updates also look at gpsunderground.com

No joy in Farnborough.

This is amazing, I totally didn't know you could modify SatNavs. Is it right you can install better software on to other sat nav units?

Most SatNavs probably run Windows CE - so to swap the sat nav program is pretty simple.

Take it further and if a sat nav has a SD card slot - you can shove in a wifi SD card - and have a mobile internet access device (if you add the software).

I have a Ipaq sat nav - which is probably one of the most configurable. - But sadly its traffic sensor is a bit of a Gordon Brown.

Ibiza's right! You just edit the shell.ini file to point to the appropriate executable, or rename the executable putting it in the correct path. Some other models may be more difficult so check on the net before buying another model hoping it will do what you want.

Top idea on using a wifi SD card, never thought of that! With a resolution of 480x272 this would work great for that if you could get opera onto it.

I've found what I *believe* to be a TMC receiver for this unit on Ebay (I could be wrong, I don't speak German, lol - and the garbled Babelfish translator only helped a little). Price is approx £30 including delivery to UK buy it now or make an offer. I have taken a gamble and made an offer. Apparently Igo8 and Amigo are able to make use of the TMC add on. I believe weak TMC reception is common to nearly all units and some people open them up and modify to connect it up to the car's stereo antenna. Will report back if I receive one.

Where'd you find this anyhow? It looks like it's been posted a few times before, so unless someone else has found this in store, I think you might have been a very, very lucky person.

I did put limited stocks in title though :)

A good few people have found them based on reports from here and MSE. Most reported that the shelf price was higher than till price :) Your best bet is probably an Asda Living store as they seem to stock lots of this sort of thing. Got mine at Asda Living, Leeds, Crown Point - though not sure if they're sold out now based on a report on MSE. I saw a big stack of them at Newport Asda Living a few months ago (when they were at higher price) so may be worth trying there.

Just picked one of these up in Asda Merthyr Tydfil, they still had a couple there
#9
There are none of these left in my local in Coleraine, but they do still have the Binatone X350 for £20!

None in Bristol. I've just got back from the Longwell Green store, not a sat nav anywhere. Asked at the desk and got, 'We stopping selling them, they're all in the back now.' and off he went into a stock room and came back with 2 tomtoms and a binatone.

Can't see them selling many if they keep them out of sight ???

Got one in Asda Living Glasgow Fort. They are in a drawer at the tills. Also got the hama carrycase and charger for £4. Thanks anewman.

In what way better?
Fascinating info. It would be interesting to hear from anyone that gets one of these and puts other software on it.

Here's a review of Igo Amigo http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/igo-amigo-review-f5165.php add to those visuals the actual street name being spoken along with directions, and depending on your opinion you might have a tomtom killer :)

Paid £50 for one in ASDA a few days ago, very pleased with it, easily hacked and now has TomTom and iGO running. '
The operating system is Windows Mobile v5 but it's not the full version used on a PDA.
The unit is solidly built and a bargain at £50 so if you find one at £30 you've hit the jackpot

i put tomtom on a myguide satnav i got for £40 a few years ago from ebuyer, it performed menu selections slightly slower than my tomtom because it was running off the sd card but otherwise it was perfect and not that difficult to do.

Loads of info on how to do all this stuff on the net- google gpsunderground forum.

Cool deal, added heat, silly question but how much is the Tomtom softawre and where can i get it?
#18
This is a wicked deal for a hackable satnav with a 4.3" screen. I modified my mum`s Myguide 3100 to run Tomtom and Igo 8 all with `safety camera` sites too, because she could not get on with the installed version, and it works 100%,. Have a look on Warez sites for software. One tip is to get the fastest SD card you can, because it makes a big difference.:)

Got the last one at York. Pretty chuffed. Have hacked one before (3" version) and they work great.

Checked on till? Most places still have the old price but comes up £30 on the till
#26
None in Coryton. £50 in Cardiff Bay, even when scanned at the till.
#27
Hmmm confusing. Either the price has gone back up or Asda till prices aren't nationwide. £50 is still good but £30 is better :)
#28
Not expired. Stevenage ASDA has about a dozen priced up at £30s. Just got one.

Last post quoted on Thursday 29th so they're still available.

I suspect one of the posters you mentioned didn't check at the till and the other is probably a regional thing.

For pre-configured software for this model see http://www.simplesatnav.com/pctforum/index.php/topic,2218.0.html

Barking - Only Binatone (which are £30)
Walthamstow - Don't sell sat navs
Romford - No 4228's, only 3218's for £20
Leyton - No sat navs
Dagenham - No sat navs
Edmonton Green - No answer
Tottenham - No sat navs
Beckton - No answer
Harlow - No sat navs

And with the terrible support on the phone, if any, i think it fair to say that unless this offer comes up again, I won't ever be buying from asda.

Hope that helps
