I don't think it would, its quite mature in its story telling. Having said that this is a brilliant series and worth getting for the future.

I remember running home from school when I was 4 to watch this and I still remember it! (Even the ending)

I have it on avi/mpeg waiting on my kids being old enough to appreciate so I can watch it with them :)

I've been watching this on and off (on the service formerly known as LoveFilm Instant) for a few months now. Although I'm enjoying it I'm surprised how much of it I simply don't remember. I remember the characters but the episodes seem completely new. I was certain I never saw the end but I had thought I had seen most of it, now I'm almost finished I have my doubts.

As good as it is in many respects (it makes you wish they did this style of story these days) it is a bit frustrating to see how annoying most of the characters are now. Esteban and Zia haven't aged well, her constantly requiring help and reassurance for example really grates. You also notice the clumsy script, but I suspect it's mostly a result of poor language translation.

They've started making new episodes so I only hope they address some of the aspects that have dated it.

Having said that it's still a worthwhile watch, just don't watch it expecting it to be quite like you remember. :D

There's an roadside towards the end where the Olmecs unleash a death ray and vapourise a bunch of poor innocent native Americans. The BBC didn't show this episode either time they aired it. That being said, I'd let my three year old watch it... COS IT'S AWESOME!!!!

Roadside? Stupid phone... episode

Re-watched this with my kids. Really holds up after all these years this one. Finally saw the finale I missed 30yrs ago because of a school trip. Also, the soundtrack is amazing. Well worth getting if you watched it as a child, or if you have children. Ffrom what I've seen of the new series it's actually pretty good too.

Did Ulysses ever find his way back and did Jayce and his Wheeled Warriors ever find his dad?

I've got the long awaited 2nd season recorded on Sky. Just waiting for a few days off work so I can binge on it. Has anyone watched it, and is it anywhere near as good as the original? From the clips I saw, the animation looked quite faithful, but I did not hear the voices.

Only seen the first 3 or 4 eps. Quite faithful and seems good so far. Carries on directly after the series from 30yrs ago. The voice cast is different, but the only one that's jarringly so is Mendoza. Nothing like the classic show's Mendoza, that guys voice was epic.

I also re-watched this recently with my 2 boys (8 and 3) and it took them one or two episodes to get into it (dont think they'd seen a non episodic cartoon series before).

But soon they were gripped and really started enjoying it alongside me- and gosh the soundtrack is still unbelievably good! <3

I've seen bits of the 2nd series just out of curiosity and it seemed too bright/colourful and cartoony for me. But i've heard its pretty good so one of these days i'll put my prejudices aside and actually watch it! X)

Certainly, my youngest must have been about that age when we bought it for the kids, maybe slightly older and they have loved it .... over and over and if I am not mistaken they do occasionally watch it still (the oldest is now 13). A very good buy.

I watched this whole series again about 9 months ago.

Just buy it, you won't regret it.

serious case of nostalgia here - heat

I've ordered this and Dogtanian too to watch with my daughter. Hope this does not turn out to be a childhood memory I wish I had not revisited! Some things have aged so badly.
#23
It aired in the UK in 1986, so I watched it at age 6 and loved it. I'm not quite sure if the story might be a bit complex in places at 3, but you can always pack it away for a bit if it is :)

is this the one where there are two kids and they have half a medallion each and when they combine it or something, a big concorde type plane comes?

Surprised no one has taken this series and did a reboot just to make it look abit more modern for nowadays kids to watch this...
#27
I have to add this to my Dungeons & Dragons and Dogtanian collection
#28
Big fan of this cartoon... bought the DVDs last month with the intention of editing all the episodes down to a 3 hour movie... there's loads of stuff that could be taken out which would make the whole thing a lot more enjoyable to watch. Gonna take some serious work though, lol

Tried to make my boys watch some old classic cartoons - Ulysses, D&D, Thundercats, Dogtanion, He-Man, Duck-Tails etc
They prefer more wacked out modern cartoons like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball.
Tis a shame :(

I thought our cartoons were the result of drug addled minds until I watched Adventure Time and Uncle Grandpa...

Ulysses! Now that was a show.

Or samurai pizza cats. Boom.

No English subtitles for the deaf,so frustrating!!

There's no need to reboot this series tbh. There's such a wealth of great animation over the last 50 years that they can just appreciate that like we did.
Speaking of the 80s, does anyone remember Dr. Snuggles? Someone really did a lot of acid.

Heres a tip... If you think your kids are too young, buy it anyway.. If its on the shelf they will watch it at some point. ;)

I've ordered it - and I'm preparing to have my rose-tinted nostalgia shattered... ;)

I barely remember that on channel 4 in the 90s. Wasn't someone stealing giant cubes of sea? That's all I remember xD
