Genres: Adventure, Historical, Science Fiction
Age rating: Older Children (May contain mild bad language, bloodless violence)
Plot Summary: 1532. Esteban (12) is a foundling from Barcelona, with a mysterious power of ordering the Sun to appear, for which he is called "Child of the Sun". Upon the death of his adoptive father, Esteban learns that he was rescued as a baby from a sinking ship in the ocean. The mysterious medallion that Esteban wears since ever has a trace somewhere in the New World, probably coming from the Mysterious Cities of Gold. Esteban leaves Spain to find his parents and find out who he is. On the way he meets Zia, an Inca girl who was kidnapped from her people years back and has exactly the same medallion as him. Later on they are joined by Tao, a young Galapagos robinson, the last descendant of the Empire of Heva, an Empire said to have built the Cities of Gold. Following Coyolite, the shining star represented on their medallions, the three children travel through the unexplored New World, searching for the Cities of Gold, believing that this way is leading them to their lost parents.

I was beginning to think this would never be seen again, but finally it is on the horizon... £38 seems steep but I'm hoping that it will drop closer to date of release. So if you are in your late 20's or early 30's you'll remember - like me - getting home from schooland being good on certain days of the week to avoid detention, especially so you didn't miss this.

HMV are running a competition to win Ltd Edition stills and stuff from the show as a bonus.

Forget Willy Fog, Dogtanian...

This is Cities of Gold & I'm damn close to wetting myself!

ulysses did have an ending. the complete series is available to buy!

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/6-/Search.html?searchstring=ulysses&searchtype=R2&searchsource=1

strangely, it is cheaper if u buy the volumes separately.

or amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002FR1DC/

£15 if u can find something to make it eligle for free delivery.

Yes of course its expensive, Fully Restored Picture And Sound is Free isn't it? Esp when most of the 'Masters' were destroyed, that would have cost a packet to do, i'm thankful for it and hopefully it will never drop in price so the tightasses lose out.
#7
i bet the live action bits get censored - if included at all.
viewing them again recently i was amazed that they included footage of animals being killed - for real!

Ulysses 31 had an ending! complete series available at amazon for £14 and play.com for £18 (although buying volumes separately makes it cheaper for some strange reason).

I don't want to start a war, but i'm pretty certain the price is (maybe just slightly) inflated due to it being a special edition.
I do understand the effort required for this.
I watched the whole series as a terrible quality download about 5 years ago and it was good.. not just nostalgia like most of these shows.

for the record, i bit the bullet and ordered it ;)

Yeah, lets all applaud them for charging such a ridiculously expensive price!

Idiot.

£24.99 would have been a much more sensible price, I'm sure there will be plenty of people like me who love MCOG but simply can't throw £40 at an 80s cartoon series purely for nostalgic reasons.

I don't like the way HMV seem to be getting exclusivity on things like this and Thundercats.
#13
Just fixed the link...

And watch the opening titles here
#14
Are HMV exclusives really HMV exclusives?

HMV has this Richard Pryor boxset as a HMV exclusive but it's available on both Amazon and Play:
http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=438018

Gonna wait closer to release date to decide.

I recommend reading The King's Fifth by Scott O'Dell, if you're Cities of Gold fan:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kings-Fifth-Scott-ODell/dp/0618747834/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201625630&sr=1-2

Having read the book, there are several similarities, though obviously not the Golden Condor...

MCoG on DVD, I thought I'll never see the day!

Who remembers Phillip Schofield's sing-a-long?

Finally sussed out how to add a picture... So have done!
#17
oooo is it only out for a limited time?? or do i have ample time to save up £40 just for me??
#19
I remember my two watching this is the late 80's early 90's!

Mysterious Cities of Gold - Has to be the greatest cartoon ever. Me and my sister always used to watch this when we were little after getting home from school. The only other Cartoons I liked were Dungeons & Dragons and Thundercats but they were way behind MCoG in 2nd and 3rd place.

Have now seen it advertised at Zavvi for £25. That seems more reasonable to me. If anyone sees it lower though please keep updating!

Cheers

John
