Might be ok for some, but don't confuse with the WD HD boxes that have HDMI ports and support all the HD video formats. My WD HD 1080p box was only £67 from Amazon delivered and well worth the little bit extra.

I agree with Ioopie, I bought the AMazon one as well, well worth it if you can pay the extra

It is better to pay the extra then you will get alot more out of the box and imo get your moneys worth in the long run :)

As with Loopie and Aeschylus, I got the one from Amazon for the £67. However this seems to have gone up to £93 so this is not a bad deal. However if you can find the 1080p one for cheap then this is your best bet as it future proofs the box.

Also, to anyone thinking of buying it, it really is a good investment. The box itself is tiny and you can run movies from USB pens so its hardly noticeable on your shelf/under the TV. I have copied all my DVD's so that I can play them on my Ipod Touch and it seems to upscale the quality so that they still look reasonable on a 40inch TV. It also keeps all the image data from the films so all the covers appear when selecting a movie which I thought was a nice touch.

The £93 one is the Live version with networking capabilities.
You can still pick up the standard one (like I did) for about £75. Great piece of Kit.
Mind you this one is a good budget version though.

EDIT: This doesn't play MKV? :?
Oh....not so good then.....

Re the HD version, have you guys got the latest one or the earlier one. Both still available on AMAZON but the later version is cheaper at £78.98 delivered (slowly)! Is it better?

Mine was the WD HD 1080p V2 for £67 delivered, but I believe it's gone up a few quid now. Amazing bit of kit though and seems to play anything I throw at it. Best purchase of 2010....so far.

It looks like the (non-Live) one now on Amazon for £79 is V3 or at least an upgrade to V2, based on the fact that it has 2x USB inputs whereas the photos posted on the Jan Hotdeal link only has one. I guess this would enable you to network it wirelessly using a USB adaptor? I wonder what else it does.

Could be worth paying £12 more than the low (and now expired) Amazon price on the (hard to find) v2. Maybe that was why the price dropped on Amazon.

EDIT:
Scrap that. I now understand the second USB port is in the side. Doh!

Anyone used these? (Sumvision Cyclone)

basic AVI player but mine works well.

still think the WD TV HD Media Player is the best (1080p) + plays MKV files

(£77.55 from span.com)
