It's still just KFC at three times the price! ;)
#3
Thanks I like Nandos and didn't know this. H & R added

The Police also get 20% discount. I used to work there so I know.
#5
its been like that for quite some time, voted hot nonetheless for reminding people. Lately all seem to take 20% off only per person with card.
I think dominos did offer some kind of deal as well, can't remember if they still do.
#6
This is nice for the nurses and other lowly paid nhs staff. But why should well paid doctors and others get these perks?

By the way, anyone who works for the NHS but eats at KFC or Nandos is creating a terrible paradox that will surely destroy the universe.

I used this discount quite a bit as a medical student. By the way, studying and living as a student for an extra three years compared to other graduates while learning the trade, in mounting debt, and then going on a starting salary 50% lower than the typical graduate job, with the chance of losing your registration (sometimes quite rightly) and therefore your livelihood if you make a mistake - I would hardly call that well paid!

I can't see the consultants and surgeons ever going into Nandos for food anyway!
#20
Not wanting to dip in to the religious debate kicking off but I personally reckon Nandos is very over rated, expensive for what it is and not really that nice! - But according to most people I know I'm in a very small minotiry here!

Bob Geldof had to sort it out. Otherwise Sting would not have had anything to do with Live Aid.

5 years at medical school with tuition at £3000 per year - £15,000
5 years rent ~ £12,000
Average text book price of £30-50 x15 for the 5 years - £750
Food for 5 years ~£5200
Total ~ £32,950 at least (as this excludes toiletries and day to day expenses like going to and from hospitals - including parking charges)

Starting salary for a Junior Doctor £21,724
Starting salary for a Nurse £21,176

Junior doctors work in excess of their alloted work hours constantly and do it out of the kindness of their hearts, it's a badly paid (given the responsibility and effort/debt given to get there), stressful and exhausting job with more responsibility placed on your shoulders than in any other profession bar none.

And you begrudge them 20% off some chicken...
#28
Don't forget 50% of Domino's collections for NHS / police / fire workers.

(Awaits the "you need a 50% discount to bring it down to the same price as my local greasy kebab shop" posts!)

Exactly - people get off their backsides and makes something of their working lives through graft. Then people moan moan moan.

That great british mentality and jealously of anyone who makes a career choice and works their way into something, even if it is only 20% off chicken!

well said, as a clinical student you can also get a lot of the discounts so long as you have some form of nhs id, 6 years of uni dont come cheap!

What exactly is the purpose of Nando's giving NHS workers in particular a discount? I don't really equate the 2? Do Nando's get something back from the NHS (apart from some possible extra custom that they can get from anyone).

Sorry to sound paranoid. I work in the publc sector and often the civil service appear to buy up gift vouchers etc. at cut price in place of wage bonuses...

I've only ever been to Nando's once (outside Windsor castle) and hated it as much as the people serving the food seemed to.
#32
I've never known gift vouchers to be given to staff as bonuses in the civil service (with the exception of milestones and retirements maybe).

Don't simplify the debate that I begrudge them cheap chicken.
Just take a look at nhsdiscounts.com there is so much nhs workers get. Maybe the £100k consultants don't eat chicken but I bet they get nice fat discounts on their mobile bills, or discounted tvs etc etc. As do all of you.

All lowly paid staff i.e nurses, porters etc should get these discounts and then some. But it should stop at junior docs and above.
Oh you went to medical school for x years and have x debts so what? All those who go on to higher ed have debts. Let's not forget that the state also funds your studies.
It would be cheaper for us to import qualified doctors. At least we would not have to pay for their education.

Whether it's mp's or the civil service or the nhs it's just one big gravy train. Come and check out the private sector. But you wouldn't last 5 minutes.

nhsdiscounts.com is overrated.
The only thing I've found cheap on there (Which I couldn't find the same or cheaper elsewhere) is parking at Heathrow.

Lets not turn this into another religious debate, but I agree Pandoo's is far much better and for the obvious reasons ;-)
