I went to my local Sainsburys store in Richmond and the Napolina tinned tomatoes were half price. Original price is 98p. When I checked my receipt they came in at 43p per tin which was fantastic! I can't see the deal online so it must just be instore.

Normally 98p!!! Crikey! It's madness buying these 'premium' brands at four times own brand prices.

If you're making a sauce, chilli or curry then you'll never tell the difference. Pure marketing IMHO.
Isn't 9x% of the cost of tinned fruits and veg in the transportation and tin costs? Even if the 'premium' contents cost 10 times than own brand then it should still only add a couple of pence to the checkout price.

Cold. ASDA's own 400g Chopped tomatoes are 33p a 400g can. Tomatoes are tomatoes....

Just been looking at these, prior to seeing this, and the ones in our local were 98p for the chopped ones but they had plum tomatoes at half price and some new 'Tetrapak' boxes also at half price but sneakily the Tetrapak ones are only 390g instead of 400g!

Why anybody pays full price for these is beyond me, like Pilgrims Choice and Cathedral City cheese they are practically always on offer at around 50p/tin, just stock up when the price is around that point.

I rate Napolina tinned tomatoes and don't subscribe to the view that you won't notice the difference in quality when you use tomatoes in cooking.

However, for what it's worth Tesco have 400g tins of East End Chopped Tomatoes for 50p and BOGOF.

I haven't tried these, so can't comment on the quality, but East End brand goods are very popular in Asian stores.
