I remember way back when you could subscribe to a free trial and run a program (Tunebite) that would play the DRM-protected tracks (WMA) back at like 5x the speed and record it through your soundcard, leaving you with a glorious mp3 file at the end of it.

Things were so much simpler back then. Albeit, very not lawful.

Damn, back in the day when you'd risk giving your conouter aids just for that one song as a ringtone...

Go on http://gb.napster.com/ and you can get a 30 day free trial, I remember using Napster when they were the download service for anyone that owned an mp3 player over an iPod probably a waste of time ever buying downloads off it if you didn't back them up or keep them on an mp3 player you probably don't have an account any more to download them again

Download speed should be restricted to that of a 56k Modem, 128k if you had the money for an ISDN line :)

can you download to a mp3 player or is it just a streaming site? TIA

No Internet? No Problem!
Download your Favourites and play them anytime, even when you are offline.

They really weren't! 30 minutes plus for one song and if there was a transfer error you had to start from the beginning again. Oh and not to mention after waiting an hour and finding that some **** has relabelled a different song!
