Lots of locations and fares from £1. Most of the £1 fares are between large cities often through london. So for example to get the cheap fair from bristol to norwich book a ticket from bristol to london and london to norwich. Lasts till 15 June

Very good point this, discovered a bit too late the first time around when I spent £30 odd on a 'Norwich to Cheltenham' ticket.. when Norwich > London > Cheltenham (same itinerary) was only £10. Wont be making that mistake again :-D

It is bloody long I can tell you that! Good opportunity to get fish and chips in london during the change over though.

POOR for anyone living in Scotland. You have a choice of 4 or so places in the whole of Scotland to set off from. I was looking to go to INVERNESS, but i would have to either drive to GLASGOW, EDINBURGH, DUNDEE or PERTH to get the bus up there.

That's because the coach takes forever as it is without being stuck behind a tractor on single track roads, they would never keep to schedule!

I don't think they can stop at that many places and still make a profit, after all what do you want from a £1 ticket? I am traveling across the country for £2, which is ridiculously cheap.

Voted hot. Bought 3 London-Aberystwyth tickets. 250 miles for £1 and saves me £30 of diesel and the planet a whole load of CO2.

Methinks the 'fast' lane on motorways should be reserved for these buses. Making NatEx a public asset and subsidising low cost travel instead of blowing billions on high speed trains would make more sense.

london to leeds for a £1

are you mad.......train takes less than 2.5 hours (at the moment)to leeds there is no way on earth it could be done anyway near that time even with a dedicated fast lane......with high speed trains 20-30 mins off the current time making it around 2 hours to leeds

it takes nearly an hour to get out of london on the coach onto the motorway atm

I think creating bus lanes on the fast lane of a motorway would be a great idea, and have all coaches travelling at the same speed, no congestion! But bear in mind the budget for road improvement is a lot greater than the budget for all the greener improvements... :(

And £1 tickets are great, will save SO much money on fuel and coach trips can be great fun! No need to drive really....
#19
Thank for this! Need cheap trains too lol
#20
great deal - just moved to England and this will help to make visiting London (and anywhere else) a bit cheaper!

My dear friend - most people do not choose to go to Leeds by train, just as most people didn't go to New York by Concorde. Speed is nice, but price is nicer. Generally there is an inverse relationship.

Giving coaches an advantage over cars helps to level the playing field. Car drivers are prepared to take an hour to get out of London ...

And, as Ken Livingstone successfully demonstrated that you can very quickly respond to increased demand with buses and bus lanes whereas building a new line cost more and takes forever as the nimbys screw everything.
#23
Just a hint...As far as I know, passengers can buy a ticket and board at any stop they wish (providing seats are availabe- not guaranteed) and also, if you pre-empt the driver, you can get off wherever you like; so buying a ticket that goes to London doesn't necessarily mean that you have to, too :)

I think this is true anyway.
Just a matter of checking the routes/stops.
#24
this is stupid, I can go from swansea to london for £1 but if I want to go to cardiff I have to pay full price. It always stops in cardiff, I wonder if I can just jump off there.
#25
what part of london will it take you to,

Advance tickets from London Victoria to Gatwick can be booked online for £3 (£2 with railcard) up to April 30th. See here: http://www.southernrailway.com/offers/advance-tickets/
Or just cruise on to Brighton for the same fare!

There won't be 4 £1 tickets available on one coach - usually just 2

I have been backwards and forwards on National Express this year due to a close relative being terminally ill and living 250 miles away - these tickets have been an absolute Godsend

Thank you to the poster (and to National Express)

Yes, that's explicitly allowed in the Ts&Cs:
http://www.nationalexpress.com/utilities/fares.cfm

The only exception is that you can't do this at an airport.
