This is basically a net with a voucher to send off for live caterpillars at a cost of £3. You can do it online with PayPal. Asked for mine to be delivered in time for birthday in May.

Had loads in stock in Leeds.

I was in the Leeds Merrion Centre branch yesterday & missed this - will have to pop back in. What a great find, my little one's really fascinated by caterpillars atm.
Thanks. I'll check this out. :)

I got this in last years tkmaxx clearance, we've had everyone in the family watching the process. Plus we found a hawk moth on Scout camp and brought it home for a few days to observe, well worth the price!

Was also in Home Bargains in Edmonton (North London).
We had one of these last summer and while it is interesting to see the life cycle of the butterflies, and the net provided offers the butterflies a safe environment, there is something missing from the experience. You get a pot with five tiny caterpillars in and your first thought is 'what do they eat?'

Turns out, instead of leaves of some sort, their food is a layer of orange solid on the bottom of the container which they just roam over and graze away on. When it comes to time for the caterpillars to pupate the pot is very messy from all the orange caterpillar poo.

My advice for anyone buying (NOT from experience) is to heed very carefully the (small) warning sign on the pot to not leave on a windowsill. Good price, and a nice little introduction to caterpillars and butterflies/moths, but FAR more interesting species can be acquired from the internet with a little searching.
