The 2nd film from Studio Ghibli to released on Blu-ray after Ponyo. This is the first film created by the celebrated animation studio direced by Hayao Miyazaki.

Indeed! I would then be able to buy my favourite 2 from Ghibli! :D

Spirited Away would be cool, but have to say I'd like to see Princess Mononoke first.

My favourite ghibli movie. So how much is it then???

Princess Mononoke next please, followed by Howl's moving castle :D

I remember watching this when I was a very young girl and being truly moved.. it was randomly shown on channel 4 I think. I wondered why other "cartoons" weren't this good. Only looking back do I realise I was into anime before I even knew what anime was :p

Great film.. Hot!

Laputa and My Neighbours the Yamadas are coming out in Japan before Christmas, so we should be seeing them next. Well, Laputa anyway, I don't know if Optimum will be in a rush to get MNTY out there.

Nausicaa looks awesome on Blu-ray.

I also have Channel 4 to thank for my early exposure to Anime, why did they stop showing them?

Fantastic, can't wait for a boxed set like the DVD one I picked up in Japan!

Cracking film. Porco Rosso is the best one though.

love love love buy buy buy

Awesome find, ordered, thank you

This film looks amazing in HD and Howl's Moving Castle is already available in HD and has been for some time.

I agree that I would really like to see Spirited Away get transferred next, or maybe Kiki's Delivery Service.

I've been skipping the dvd set hoping that Ghibli will release those great movies in bluray, guess it time to start collecting X), does this have the japanese and english audio track? As i tend to watch anime in their native language with english sub.
#14
Really tempted on this - haven't got this on dvd or seen it, but love Princess Mononoke. I tried rewind.net to compare country versions, but don't see bluray comparisons for this for different regions. That said I use ps3 whhich is region locked (though there's always the pc).

This stuff is so much better than the crap I started on with anime. The early stuff like project ako were nice in terms of anime style of drawing, but so much anime lacks smooth story telling. The likes of utter crap like ultimate teacher and other more adult stuff put me off anime for a while and it was only few things like Oh My Goddess, KOR and Ghibli that pulled me back in.

@kakkou: Both English and Japanese soundtracks.

@Spark: Really? On Blu-ray? I've only seen Ponyo online.

@silkhuk: They are still showing them or at least Film 4 broadcasts them; Kiki was on a few weekends ago.

me too!!!

i also enjoy watching everything in original soundtrack however, i grew up in hong kong so was used to the cantonese versions which i still prefer (weirdly, only on a few: nausica, laputa, kiki's and grave of fireflies)

btw, this looks awesome!! http://www.otaku.co.uk/itemview.asp?itemid=79490e

(cheaper at forbidden planet but this site has info....including cantonese language!!! which is a rarity)

£20.37 now :-(

Expired?

That's odd? It was at the £11 price for a week or so. I was surprised it wasn't listed here before I posted last night. I guess the extra interest put a spot light on it?
#20
Back to full price it seems. Glad I got my order in earlier before it changed back (and with the £10 voucher I had its going to cost me a whopping 93p delivered :) )

In Japan, and possibly the US I think, so either way you would need a Zone A compatible Bluray player.

Watching these films with English voice overs is essentially blasphemy.

Yeah, I don't know why they put the price up like that. It was just under £11 since release and it didn't suddenly see a massive rush up the charts because of this thread.

That new price isn't full price, it's stupid overprice.

Shame it's not got the same artwork at the Japanese release...
#25
For the ones they only release overseas, locking bluray regions means that you're going to have to download the movie and play it on your PS3 if you've got one, or your PC. Region locking is stupid! It's especially annoying that America moved over to the same region as Japan so that they can enjoy each other's blurays but we can't :(
#26
glad i got my order in quick!

not all blu-rays are region locked, even if they say region A, they are effectively region free, i've got a few american blu-rays that play fine on my UK PS3, if you google I believe there is a nice list that shows which ones work and which dont.

£20.37 they having a laugh? Its not even a fancy set, just a standard box with no slipcover. I paid £14 for the deluxe set of Ponyo

Your mistaken. Only Nausicaa and The Castle of Cagliostro (and Ponyo of course) have been released in Japan with only Ponyo in the US. Laputa and My Neighbours the Yamadas are due out in Japan in December.

I'm seriously disappointed I missed this, first I miss the cheap Play pre-order, now this.

At least the average price has come down to £14.99 if you don't want to wait.
