Ive got the version one model of this sat nav and im running tomtom on it - it works perfectly and for 50 squid is a bargain.

Shame its just a penny under the free delivery level though. Still hot however cause as has been said you can add some batteries or a cat5 cable for 49p to get free delivery.

I've got one of these and it runs the TomTom fine.
It has the uk and european maps on it (and it works as we travelled through France in the summer)
We're going to Florida in May, has anyone successfully loaded the USA maps on it?

TomTom 6 runs OK but TomTom 7 is slow updating the screen, as a result it is easy to go past a turn before the screen updates with the info. It has happened to me 5 or 6 times.

Good Deal , I bought the 4.3" version earlier in the year for £90 . It now has TomTom6 , Igo ,Miomap & Turbo Dog on the same SD card and works fine .Buy the 3.5" or the 4.3" Navigos and you can put on what you like in terms of satnav software.

Think this is the one i bought earlier in the year.
How do you get it to run TomTom software?

The possible reason why Tomtom 7 is slow is because the the speed camera database installed in it are seperate 'ov2' files, which Tomtom treats as seperate POI's when mapping them.

You need to remove them and replace them with the single 'ov2' file speed cam database !

My Tomtom 7 works fine on both V1 & V2 Navigo's that i have !

Thanks OP

Actually when you add Cat cable for £0.55 and check out the total delivered price still comes to £49.99. I assume it's the difference in VAT kicking in.

What is the actual software that comes installed with it like? Anybody give a quick oppinion as to getting from A to B, as thinking of buying it as a xmas gift for a not too technical person who wouldnt update it with Tom Tom and just wondered if its easy enough to use just like any other sat nav.
#14
Hi guys, I have this satnav. The software (or GPS stuff) is rubbish, However I put TomTom on mine, and it woks like a treat!!! Also with speed camera's (not sure how to change the sound alerts on these, so mine currently moo's when a speed camera is approaching!! haha!)
Its a good buy, but I think there are many branded ones at a lower or similar price, am I right?

Merry Crimbo peeps! :santa:

Just read what you wrote after, Its simplicity is one of its main features. Just to add, it doesn't come with the speed camera's already on this piece of kit. So if your only after a cheap A-B one, I think this is ideal. They have many reviews on Ebuyer so check them out! :-D

Thanks for that, I don't trust ebuyer reviews 100% as they tend not to post all the negative ones and the first few pages there as well were talking about installing tom tom.
As you say there are similar brand name ones for about £20 more so might just opt for one of them, cheers!

I have the v1 of the Navigo and got it from ebuyer for £50 about a year ago

I haven't even bothered putting Tomtom on it,no it doesnt have speed camera detection but other than that the original software is good
#18
I bought this earlier in the year when it was on offer at £45. Installed TomTom and it's brilliant.

In answer to the question posed earlier - I have the US maps installed on mine, in addition to UK & Western Europe. Very easy to do this - just search the internet for the maps you need, download them and put them on the SD card. Then change the maps on the TomTom menu screen and you are away.

You can also get free speed camera data if you search the net and I have found these to work very well.

We bought this a couple of months ago for £54.99 and it is better than some of the sat navs that £100 plus. The software on it is awful but once you have put on some decent software ie tom tom etc it is the best sat nav out there for a rediculously low price!!! Grab yourself a bargain because I'm glad we did.
#20
This is the worst satnav I have ever used...its worth considering if you want to tomtom it but other than that STAY AWAY...it doesnt recalculate properly if you deviate off the course....instead it sends you back to the point you deviated from....imagine if this is the M25 or somewhere that no longer exists....I rest my case
#21
Unfortunately ebuyer charge customers in Northern Ireland/ highlands/ channel islands a rip off £13 delivery but even at £63 this is a bargain. I voted this hot but could I encourage anyone in these areas to email ebuyer and complain about deliveries? Maybe if the get enough emails they might change their policy and give us the same as the rest of the UK.
#22
probably worth spending an extra £25 and getting a new tomtom one v3 from tescos
#23
Bought this for fil for Christmas as we have the old version and it is very good, add free shipping over £49.99 makes it a bargain price.

Yes , just to underline what everyone has wrote ...............the software that is supplied with these units is really rubbish .If you dont want to tinkle with the unit to run other software then DONT BUY , get an dedicated unit like Navman / TomTom and the likes. As far as I can remember you can run 1 other bit of software on the SD card using the original Navigo interface . But if you want to run multiple software's [I have 4 on my SD card] you simply change 5 registry keys and the unit will boot into WindowsCE .You can create shortcuts to your software on the SD card .

We have several of these in our family - TOTAL BARGAIN .

I thoroughly recommend iGO8 navigation (from PCTailor as in earlier post). This can be used by just putting the files on the SD Card, so there is no need to 'hack' the unit which is too technical for some people.

The advantages of this iGO8 download are: It has text to speech (says the names of roads rather than just 'next left'), it has lane assist (shows which motorway lane to use as junction approaches), repeats speed camera warnings more than once, calculates average speed in average speed camera zones (very useful). TomTom does not have these features if you put it on this system.

That said, TomTom is the most 'user friendly' system but you can replicate most of those benefits with iGO8 by downloading 'TTGLIKO' (do a google search) and this merges the best parts of the two navigation systems.

Do you have tomtom 7 working on it mate ?
Mine lags badly with tomtom but works fine with iGO8.

Newer maps, and I think someone has managed to get mapshare to work on this type of device. It does seem to run a bit less smoothly though and you need to use a map keygen whereas my version 6 didn't need maps activating.

Thanks OP just bought my sister one for chrimbo she's moving for work to a new area of the country (just graduated as a nurse) and will find it really handy I bet :).

Last chrimbo, puno posted this guide to getting tomtom to work

Making tomtom work:

You need to obtain tomtom software, I used v6.010. Now the trick to making this work is to get hold of the "installed" files, I managed to do this by installing on my PDA first and then copying across the tomtom folder on my PDA to an SD card.

Then put the map folder onto the root of the SD Card.

By now you should have to folders on the SD CARD

>>Tomtom
>>Great Britain

Rename the Tomtom folder to "mobilenavigator".

Inside the "mobilenavigator" folder find "tomtom.exe" and rename it "mobilenavigator.exe".

Reboot and when you click the navi software button, tomtom will start. The first time i ran it I got an error, but ever since it has worked perfectly.

To get GPS and Tomtom talking you set the GPS receiver option in Tomtom to other NMEA receiver, Baud rate 4800 and COM1.

I have been using this for 2 weeks now and really pleased with my navigo tomtom!

It is also possible to unlock WINCE but I'll save that for another day!

Notes:

Use a different SD Card, if this goes wrong you can just put the old back and it will work again.

The hardest part of this is getting the installed tomtom files, If you dont have a PDA then one way to get the tomtom installed files would be to extract them from the insataller CAb file using a pocket PC Cab utility.

Like he says, you need to download the TomTom "installed" (as opposed to installation files). This is important. Here they are:
{pirated software links MOD removed}
(I found them on gpsmodding forum)

Also, I randomly stumbled upon this site, looks good :)

This is a cracking unit, I bought the older model earlier this year.

It's very very easy to use, but I agree with everyone the installed sat nav software is pants, totally spoils your sat nav experience.

I've got Mio Map, Route66 and Tom Tom on mine, the Mio Map software if fantastic and much better than the TomTom. Oh my wife has a TomTom One so my comparison is valid.

Buy - you wont be disapointed, to crack the unit you have two options, use the reg tweak to expose Windows then instal your desired software or just buy another SD card and copy Mio Maps/Tom Tom on that - then swap the cards depending on which software you want to run.

Hope you find this useful.

Interesting reading thru this thread

I bought the previous version earlier this year

Couldn't get TomTom to work on it no matter how much I bribed it
Asked several ppl on here 4 advice and no-one really gave firm directions

Ended up putting MioMaps on it UK & Europe and have been very happy with its accuracy
Have used TomTom in the past and pretty much the same quality IMHO
MioMaps has speed cameras on it

I do find it pretty useless on POI searches - i.e. look for nearest park 2 current loation & it finds one like 100 miles away - maybe that part of the s/w is screwed up?
I also found it annoying when ur on holiday and u wanna go to a town centre but u don't know the name of any road (esp. in Europe) - hard to find a destination - u can't just choose a town - it wants a full address
That's what I found anyway BUT perhaps I can't use it properly

Overall - recommended - can't fault it in the UK AND if u know the postcode/full address
