2 very useful sites to get tomtom working on navigo.
#10
i used the above sites to get my navigo running, tomtom , igo and miomap all on 1 1gb sd card

voted hot for the usability of the unit, the route plannign software on it is very poor in my opinion.

but very easy to install other software.
#11
not sure about this.

Please note that to use alternate mapping, you will need to select the 'Other NMEA receiver' at a Band rate of 38400 through COM7

as I run mine at max rate (I think it is 115200) and it works fine.

Can you listen to the MP3 player while the navigation is running?
Cheers.

How do you avoid tenner postage ?

Yes - but you need to exit the mapping software to change track / pause.

Use SuperSaver delivery for cheaper postage.

Thanks for your reply. Hope I'm not a pest but could you tell me -
will it play through a list of the mp3's while the navigator is running, and, if so, can you hear the navigation instructions over the playing music.
Hope you dont mind helping
Thanks
AJ

It plays them simultaneously - you should be able to hear it depending on the song...

I'm a bit of a satnav biff so please forgive the ignorance, but why would you need 3 different mapping applications on one card?
#17
Seems pretty good this one, Just think its ugly compared to the S30. How good is the battery life?
#18
Bought one

I am tempted....dont know if I should buy it or not? How easy is it to put tom tom on it?

You don't need more than TomTom imo, just gives you the option I suppose.

As for ease of installation it takes up to 5 minutes if you take your time :-)

I wonder if eBuyer would give me a partial refund. Mine was DOA and i've just submitted a return on it. Now the price has come down...

you don't really but nothing wrong with choice. The other systems have a different look to the maps and are pretty accurate too. IGO & Miomap share the same maps but have different look to thwe views.
More information & downloads to be found at www.thepctailor.com
I recently purchase the 3.5 with bluettooth and v. happy with it. The ony niggle I have found is that it can take a few minutes to lock on the satellites so I switch it on and program it a few minutes before getting in the car.

Ebuyer have an annoying habit of yoyo-ing their prices. They're just as likely to raise it again as drop it further.
#29
Mp3 playback, how would that be effective as I'm assuming it's not linked to your in car stereo speakers? So you'd endure awful tinny playback from the speakers in the unit itself?!

I have an fm transmitter that plugs in to the earphone socket. will put it through the car stereo.

Can you buy an AC adapter?

Two deals were posted on here the other day for USB AC adapters. Cheapest was £3.99 on Play.com which I bought.

Just rang eBayer and they won't refund the difference :-( Not willing to risk the price going back up just to save £6 though. Nevermind still a great price for £61

Anyone got TomTom7 running on these? With Widescreen support and no crashing? And speed cams? And western europe maps?
#33
Got the 3.5 version and its excellent. Put MioMap3 on there as its maps and interface are far nicer than the Tomtom ones. Great deals.

i've not tried it, but you can get a menu system from one of the sites which will allow you to do this.

Can't knock the price but as someone that recently switched for running TomTom on a Navigo to a refurb TomTom 520 (not through choice - Navigo was stolen) I'd have to say it's well worth spending a little more.

Totalpda had refurb 520's for £80, and they get a new screen and case and full warranty from TomTom so are basically as new. None in stock at the moment but they do seem to get them regularly and you can sign up for an email notification of new items.

Firstly on the Navigo you are limited to version 7 of TomTom Navigator so you are running old technology, and with TomTom stopping (or at least drastically slowing) development on PDA's that's unlikely to change. I find version 8 of navcore on the 520 to be a huge improvement with IQroutes and land guidance plus of course there's lots of other benefits like gpsquickfix, text to speech to read out street names, voice recognition for speaking addresses, bluetooth for your phone etc.

Secondly TomTom 7 on the Navigo was a bit sluggish, especially on roundabouts where it could get a bit confused as to where you actually where. No such problems on the 520 which runs nice and smoothly

Finally unlike running TomTom on a Navigo it's all legit and legal, no need to download a dodgy pirate copy of the software/maps. I guess that's not really a huge concern for people but it does mean can get support from TomTom in case of problems. I believe the general consensus is TomTom are stopping development on Navigator for PDA's and phones due to the widespread piracy and it's fairly easy to see why.

I'm a fairly light user of satnav but for me personally the extra money I spent has been well worth it, nothing wrong with the Navigo as it's a cracking price but cheapest isn;t always the best option.
