I bought the 895 version [4.3" screen ] did the reg key hack and now have TT6 ,Miomap,TD & Igo all on the same card .Excellent device ,made better now with the added software. I've used TT for years on my phone's & PDA but Miomap is way,way better .Check out those sites for more info , including the ebuyer forum, lots of help there too.
#8
So with TomTom maps loaded is this just as good as a TomTom at around the £120 mark?
#9
A TomTom is only a satnav and a good one at that . But ,these Navigos can run anything : Route66 ,Igo , TomTom ,Miomap ,Turbo Dog [the unit comes bundled with this]and more .I have 4 on the same card . The OS of these things is Windows CE , so it's basically a mini PDA/Pc type thingy ! I'm using the UK & Western Europe map [v675.1409] for TT. Theres a lot of software for these things too , Theres not a lot you can put on a dedicated TomTom unit apart from a MAP !

there is a software update for this if i remember rightly

turbodog 5.0

Have you tried Turbo Dog ???/

absolutely apalling bit of software .My test using it on the road showed me on all the paralell roads but the one I was actually on . This was the reason many have opted for the alternative software.
#13
So If i buy this what do I need to do to get Full European maps (west and east)?
#14
I purchased one at the earlier price of £49. I have updated with TOM TOM and also used MIOMAPS without any problems.
The actual unit is small enough to almost fit in most shirt pockets, the sound is clear enough though the battery life is rather poor if you are thinking of going on a long journey.
The unit charges from your usb as it comes with no plug if I remember rightly, though it does charge using a Motorola phone charger.

Overall worth the money especially if you can get hold of the Tom Tom or Mio maps..

Hi
I am driving down to France,Italy, ferry then on to Greece,Turkey and Bulgaria next month. Could someone who has one of these tell me if it is easy to hack it and if so can I then put the correct software on it so I can basically drive from Glasgow to Bulgaria. (and if so,what software is all-in-one,or would I need to use different software for different countries?) I would be willing to pay someone to hack it,and put the correct software on it so it is basically ready to roll) Please msg me,thanks.
#16
i click the link and it says 59.99 for me, anyone else have this problem??
#17
the porter
lol thats the price

lol, i read the thread and thought it was going for 49.99 as it did a few months ago..

sorry hehe

#18
good unit, rubbish battery life
#19
:oops:are there any software updates on tt or miomap etc that give lane assistance?
#20
Got this a while back when it was £49.99 and been very impressed with it. The software that came with it (Turbodog) is dreadful but after some searching on the ebuyer forums it was easy enough to put TomTom on it and never looked back. Still a bargain at this price

I purchased one, had no need to hack the system itself. All I had to do was add the Mio or Tom Tom onto a separate SD Card. The machine itself had built in software which actually controls the initial setup, then all you select is Navigation from there it boots your software. Hey Presto.
If I remember right the Tom Tom might need a few mins of configuration which was literally the click of a few icons etc. No problem at all! Highly recommend as I did to friends at work who now are pleased as punch!!
Happy Driving!

I bought this when it was 49.99 and running iGO8 on it, excellent device
Tried tomtom too, but iGO is far better so sticking to it.

Hey i got a navcam 6200, rund win ce and can run all that stuff above, i wanna run navigon, any help with that?
#24
the hacks for this unit sound great, it sealed the decision for me, ordered and heat left, thanks for the heads-up, can't wait to install Windows CE on it!

BTW does anyone know what size sd card comes with it and the maximum capacity it can handle? Cheers.
#25
Got one of these last time round and I thought the turbo dog software was OK.
I know you can run some versions of tom tom on it but I was happy with what I got for the price.
Price jumped up and down a lot last time as the stock levels fell so dont be surprised if this ends up costing you £49.99 or £69.99 instead of £59.99. I struck lucky last time !!

I use a 4GB SDHC card (cheap play one).
#27
cant remember if it was covered before, but if you put gapi on it (http://www.wincesoft.de/html/gapi_for_hpc_s.html) then you can play all the 3d games too :) plus scumm (monkey island, sam and max etc) works particulaly well.
#28
for the gapi thing, just install it, and then note which files it puts in your windows directory and copy them into a separate directory- then each time you turn it on from scratch (because it resets everything in that directory), shift them over to windows and its fully installed again. i wish i could make a bat file to do this automatically but i cant seem to make one for it. if anyone has any suggestions there then id be really grateful :)
#29
just bought one as my destinator3/acer doesn't seem to work with >2006 maps and i'm getting fed-up with its quirks (having to configure the gps port every time you turn it on etc).

looking forward to running all the different gps software from wince5 on a 2-4gb sd card.

This is an awful GPS (we have one).....add an extra £40 and get a tom tom one or something. Points of interest are few if at all (and that's for big cities), entered a post code to an old address and it couldn't find it at all, it gives poor directions and I've ended up having conversations with the damn thing which goes something like this:

"Turn left ahead" - What left?
"Keep to the right" - Great....you just put me in the wrong lane and like a muppet I trusted you....10 extra minutes onto my journey because by human standards you're a bloody moron....I've a good mind to feed you to the rabbits.
"At the roundabout take the forth exit" - Ok....now you're taking the p**s....there is no 4th exit.....why do you do this to me? I haven't done anything to you (yet)....hell I even liberated you from eBuyer and this is the thanks I get? You're just an evil box aren't you? like that hell raiser box except that made enough sense to have a solution to it. Grrr.

The amount of times this thing has made me late.....it's just not worth it. >_<
#31
This is a great buy, if you mod it. Get this and put TomTom on and you'll save yourself £40.

It would be a waste to buy a Tom Tom

That's great but how do you get the TomTom software for free??
#33
I got this last time and put Tom Tom on it. It works perfectly. Bargain.
#34
thinking about getting this and putting another GPS program on it like miomap / igo

but...

anyone know if any of the win ce based gps programs have text to speech i.e. can read street names etc. I really find this feature useful on my Navman S90, but the S90 mapping / direction always appear to be late and you end up missing turnings etc.

thanks

This is, as it has been pointed out by others, always about this price, sometimes it has been offered to existing customers at about £50 ish..

I cannot find it at the moment but the other day someone found a seller (and detailed it on HD) flogging them for £39 + P&P, but at that price I don't expect there'll be many left..... :(
#37
This is probably one to watch rather than buy just yet. After the last stock sold out at £49.99, they got another 85 in & hiked the price to £59.99. Ten days later they'd sold none so in a stroke of genius, raised the price again. There's now 271 in stock so I suspect that the price is likely to fall again before too long.

General consensus seems to by that the only way to make it usable is to replace the software. This is uneconomical if done legally.

However you install TomTom, you are limited to software version 6 with map version 6.75 which is now quite old.

Oh come on, you know the answer to your own question. TomTom is not free, work it out
