WHY ? Is it not in Wales :(
The National Citizen Service is operational in Wales, albeit under the banner of Engage4Life as a separate organisation (funded by both the Cabinet Office and the Welsh Government). It's only running in the Autumn half term period as far as i can tell though

Hi thankyou I have never heard of it I will look into it now, thanks again x
I think it's always £50 but heat for scheme and price
They also have thousands of job opportunities for those looking for summer work. For those in London, Birmingham, Surrey and Manchester check out http://www.ncsthechallenge.org

for most programmes you wont be able to sign your child up for the Easter scheme as its too late, but sign them up for the summer programme!! All food accommodation and equipment are included in the price. the actual scheme is worth £2500 per child. As well as a skill, they learn to help their local communities, interact with those they would not normally interact with, as well as life principals and skills
The Summer NCS programme runs for 3 weeks plus four weekends in September.
Its for 16-17 year olds and is really a great opportunity. The kids are well looked after. Two weeks are residential and the third week and weekends are nonresidential
There are discounts for those from low income families, so they may pay as little as £10 for three weeks child care.

In London, Surrey, Birmingham and Manchester the NCS is run by The Challenge Network which is a great charity and very professional. In fact, they were the originators of the NCS programme until the government decided to fund it country wide, changing the name from The Challenge to NCS (powered by the challenge).

They are also great with young people with special needs and disabilities.

A government e-petitiion could be set up to try to get it made mandatory. Only 66 degrees of heat on here. It would be quite a hope for the required 100,000 signatures for it to be considered for debate in the House of Commons.
Sounds like a tentacle of' Common Purpose'.
Yeah, is a bit of a worry that something like this might get cancelled. Lets hope not. Wish it was mandatory in ways!
I'm going to talk to her about this. I can only see her going if one of her friends join her too ... luckily one of her best friends seems to have liked their FB page so that's a good sign. I'm just a bit worried that she won't go the extra mile and actually try make more friends and broaden her horizon in ways. Sometimes going it alone is a better way .. but still, better she goes with a friend rather than not go at all (_;)

Thanks, this looks good .. now to try convince my 15yr old to sign up :p

Potentially a couple of years to persuade your 15yr old to sign up! Unless the scheme gets cancelled.
I am pleased some of you are finding this to be a useful deal.

A shame it did not exist when I would have qualified for it.

For those needing to persuade sons/daughters/niece/nephews/... to attend; try getting one or two of their friends to sign up at the same time. That may persuade them to go away with their mates via this for a weeks holiday (phase 1). The scheme also seems a great way to make new friends and to meet a variety of people outside of their normal social group. There will be a bit of luck involved with regards to fellow people attending & how well they form bonds; and the social action project they end up being involved in which will decide how enjoyable they find the programme. Hopefully a sense of achievment too once the social action project is complete.

It seems amazing value for a maximum cost of £50.
