One of the greatest vampire movies ever made

In the dusty heat of the American southwest, innocent country boy Caleb Colton (Adrian Pasdar) is seduced by a beautiful girl (Jenny Wright) into joining a roving pack of vicious drifters, lead by the enigmatic Jesse (Lance Henriksen, Terminator, Aliens). But this is no ordinary band of outlaws. Caleb is now trapped in a nightmare of soulless evil that waits in the shadows, hellish mayhem that thrives on blood; the horror that begins Near Dark.

Bill Paxton (Titanic) and Jenette Goldstein (Aliens) co-star in this extraordinary thriller, co-written and directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break).

I remember seeing this years ago on TV, excellent film.

Thanks for posting. Wonderful film. Also featuring an early appearance of 'Nathan Petrelli' from Heroes in the leading role!

Great film, why dont they ever release the most excellent film 'VAMP' on R2? :-(

Great film, thoroughly recommended :)

Echoing what other have said really - really good alternative take on the vampire genre and a bargain at £2.50. There is also a 2 disc edition available with a documentary, deleted scenes and other bobbins. Might get this to replace my VHS copy...

Any love for VAMP though with Grace Jones ...

Any of good vampire films of the same nature?

I remember a good one from late 80's I think where its a very realistic film and you are not sure if the main character is a vampire or just ill, think it was filmed in B&W and remember it being filmed in New York or London.

A bit like Martin in the realism of the film. Very strange film ...

Fantastic film, highly recommended.

Pretty sure it's out on Blue ray soon?

This is a great film - also check out Katherine Bigelow's first film The Loveless - she lived with James Cameron who nicked a few bits and bobs from these two films for Terminator 1 and 2...

It wasn't The Addiction was it? Parallels heroin addiction with vampirism. It's set in New York but I'm not sure if the vampire is ambiguous or not... Martin is brilliant too, might give that a watch now!

I haven't actually seen VAMP yet, though my fave vampire film has got to be Fright Night (if not one of my favourite films of all time). Also have you seen Let the Right One In? That's an original and good effort on the vampire genre.

Hmm, this post makes me sound like someone who reads Anne Rice novels and wears eyeliner...

Vamp imo is even better than Fright Night (very close thing).
Fright Night 2 wasn't bad just couldn't beat the brilliance of the original.
Salems lot was another fav of mine.

Well I watched 'The addiction' after dl it and it not as good as I thought and now think I've got mixed memories of this film and another, Vampire's Kiss with Nicholas cage which I will watch at some point.

Im sure I saw some of these horror films as part of some kind of BBC 2 series with Alex 'somebody' or other who would introduce each one.

Im not a big horror fan these days, but for nostalgia reasons I thought I would revist them and the fact that most horror these days just isn't as good.

It was Habit the film I couldnt remember.

Anyway for all those who like near dark, fright night and lost boys will really like VAMP not out on R2 (I got a R1 copy from ebay) but for those who download movies its readily available.
