Need For Speed Shift 2: Unleashed:

Need For Speed Shift 2: Unleashed is the next entry in the blockbuster Need for Speed simulation series. The original Shift game was released in September 2009 and has sold through close to five million copies globally. Its success was propelled by the revolutionary true driver's experience - a game design that was heralded by critics as more visceral, more physical and more intense than any other title in the sim category. Capturing the physicality and brutality of racing at 200mph has been the leading area of innovation by the award-winning development team at Slightly Mad Studios. Need For Speed Shift 2: Unleashed builds on the true drivers experience by introducing the driver's battle, an even more authentic and primal feeling of power and speed which elevates the fundamental competitive race into a struggle for supremacy against other drivers and even the track itself.

In Need For Speed Shift 2: Unleashed, players' hands sweat and ache as they clutch onto the controller, their pulse races from the break-neck speeds experienced through the first-person cockpit view. Launching in Spring 2011, Need For Speed Shift 2: Unleashed pushes the envelope with the most authentic and intense racing experience in the genre.

Need For Speed Shift 2: Unleashed features an all-new rendering engine with a massive graphics overhaul that puts the player in the heart of the racing action. With an innovative helmet camera view simulating the physical experience of driving at 200mph, the thrilling experience of night racing and authentic degradation of tracks and cars, this is tomorrow's sim for today's adrenaline fueled racer. Need For Speed Shift 2: Unleashed also incorporates the next generation of Need for Speed Autolog - the groundbreaking network that connects friends for epic head-to-head races and compares player stats for the ultimate social racing competition.

This game any good? Didn't like the last one.

Its good but its too hard. Even on easy mode your opponents are too good and if you make a single mistake you spin out horribly and lose the race. Its very frustrating so I sold my copy and will probably pick it up again if they patch it.

Anyone thinking of buying this, I would recommend trying it first. I got it on day of release and am very dissapointed. The handling of cars is very bad with the controller or steering wheeland the drift section is near on impossible!

I have to say, I do agree with the other posters. I played the original Shift a TON and it was amazing. I even lost my save game progress after many many hours, but was quite excited to go back to start from the beginning!

However, I did give this game a try at a friend's house, and it's not a patch on the original. The visuals have been updated, but not necessarily for the better. Your view is now framed by the driver's helmet, and the driver's eyes naturally drift towards a corner as you drive towards it... which is a great idea on paper, but is actually quite distracting while you're driving yourself. Maybe you'd get used to it and it would add to the immersion, but it does't immediately appear to be an improvement.

As for the handling: it's absolutely horrible. The first race (the one they use to gauge your skill) is a deeply unpleasant experience in trying to keep your heap of metal somewhere vaguely on the tarmac, only for you to be told that you're probably best on the 'easy' level... erm, I'm probably no Nigel Mansell, but I do have many hours experience with driving games. I'm pretty sure I can handle at least the 'normal' level...

No, unfortunately I'm giving Shift 2 a wide berth.

I liked this game, got boring really quickly though.

I loved the original, thinking about getting this but surely the handling can't be that different from the original?
#7
Not a bad game, but agree with previous posts try before you buy. Hot pursuit was better than this so it kinda seems like a step backwards :(
#8
Just bought Hot Pursuit and love it, esp the autolog. This one seems like hard work...

The handling is fine if you tweak it correctly. You have to go into the advanced mode and decrease your deadzone to about 10%. then increase your steering sensitivity to about 50%. seems to work fine then.
