Judging by the inconsistencies in units on the page I think this is actually a 1000mW so a 1W laser, which isn't spectacular, but also won't cost you a fortune to run that a 1000MW would - which is about the size of a power station...

Awesome little units for SLOoooooooooowly engraving small items :-) I have a 500mw one and that does well, even cuts very thin foam board

Rather suspect they'd have to be made of plywood as there is no way a 1W laser will able to leave any mark on metal.
A quick ebay search for 'wooden keyring blanks' throws up some hits.

Seems from the second link (look for "How much power should I use?"), that a 35W (35,000mW) laser is the min required. Interesting (but logical I guess) that the speed is mainly dependent on the conductivity of the metal but then again that LMM-6000 seems to ensure that reflectivity has no bearing - although a quick image search has it beige not black which I would have assumed would be best for absorbing a laser.
