Neon Genesis Evangelion is the story of a young hero, called upon to pilot an immense robotic weapon in battle against alien invaders in 2015 AD. As the remnants of the human race cower in subterranean cities, a deadly war is being waged on what is left of the planet. On one side are the mysterious Angels; on the other, the special agency NERV and mankind's last hope, the awe-inspiring Evangelions. Piloted by a special team of teenage warriors, these giant bio-mechanical humanoids are the only thing that can withstand the force of the Angels' defense fields. With the lives of every soul on the planet at stake, these few youngsters must reach down deep inside themselves to find the strength and courage necessary to meet the Angels head on in a desperate attempt to save mankind.

£12.89 @ Sendit

Good deal, hot

Great price, although mixed Amazon buyer reviews - apparently in 4:3 not widescreen, and doesn't have the final 2 movies that round the series off. Plus the whole series is being remade into updated feature length chunks. But at this price I think it's worth a punt if you ever owned the original VHS set which would take up a couple of shelves!

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered from Sendit but the Asda price still isn't bad. My friend was asking why I didn't have this series yesterday.

4p more then Sendit at The Hut but you get iPoints AND Quidco!

all anime made in 1995 was, the plantinum editions thankfully clean up the picture, some parts are crystal clear and a good test for tv pq

didn't realise this was so cheap lately, might buy it again as i bought and sold it when it was £78 at play, the cheapest at th time, the booklet is quite cool and the extra animation sections in certain episodes are nice if not exactly groundbreaking

Are there any plans for an even better boxset including the films? Also carnt the aspect ratio be changed on like cyberlink powerdvd or something?

no because manga video own the rights to End of Evengelion (which seems to be hard to get hold of at the moment) and the platinum collection NGE is owned by ADV, as for aspect ratio, i guess you could stretch the image sideways if you wanted using a video player, but i prefer to watch in original aspect ratio, looks better to me

also if you want the new movie Evangelion 1.0, you can buy that on CDWOW, albeit region 3

Ok, am kinda confused now. Can you tell me how many evan films and episodes there are?

*Takes a deep breath* There was originally a 26 episode television series, followed by the film "Death and Rebirth". The death portion is a condensation of the television series with a little new footage, Rebirth is entirely new footage and the first half of the series conclusion. The End of Evangelion is the rebirth section of the first film plus another hour of plot and concludes the television series storyline. There are alternative versions of the films available in Japan, but not in English.
Episodes 21-26 were also recut to incorporate extra footage, these dvds were released seperately in the UK and US.
In 2003 the sound and picture was remastered for the "Renewal" edition which was released in the US and America as the Platinum edition. This is the version you'll get in the Tin Box set above, and is the best version currently available.
There is also the film Evangelion 1:0 : You are not alone, which is the first of a trilogy and retells the story with some differences. The second film is due to be released later this year. Its been picked up for a US release by Funimation, but with no word of an actual release date.

It's a personal favorite of mine, and I'd highly recommend it. In fact, most of studio Gainax's work is worth checking out, FLCL and Gunbuster are both available in the UK.

OK bookdiver you're up on Gainax stuff then answer me this, What is Gunbuster 2 (in relation to Gunbuster) and why is it so expensive?
#13
Gunbuster 2 (Also known as "Diebuster") is a sequel to the first gunbuster, set around 12,000 years (I know, yikes!) after the first one. It retains some ideas from the first one, reworks a lot of the score, and has none of the original characters. It's also a lot less serious than the first one, with a similar tone to FLCL for the most part.

As for why it's so expensive, to be totally honest I think Bandai (Or "Beez" as the DVD packaging states, or Honneamise in the states) horrendously overcharge on all their Discs. I'll be the first to admit that their packaging is great, and there's usually some good special features on there too, but their prices are ridiculous, and finding any of their releases discounted is a nightmare. I really wanted the Patlabor collectors boxes, but yikes! As to why Gunbuster 2 has become unavailable so soon, no idea I'm afraid! HMV have it in stock, but at least it's better than in japan, where each epsiode was released individually. CD Japan have each half hour episode for $64 dollars + shipping atm, so maybe we don't have such a bad deal after all!

Snedit and Asda have both nixed the link.
