Any idea how big these are?
#2
3cm??
#3
not very big look at the demonstration

My friends son found these last month and asked her to get him one for his birthday (10) of which she did.
He has had lots of fun with this and it has been well worth the monies spent.. which was actually £20 at the time.

These are brilliant. Just be really careful they don't find their way into the hands of babies/toddlers/pets likely to swallow them. One isn't much of an issue but more than that and they can attract each other through the intestine wall causing real problems.

God, I sound like a real killjoy... not my intention at all but if a child swallows a few of these it can require surgery to remove them, which would probably not be a good thing.

Good, but only £8 delivered from UK sellers on auction sites.
#7
Is there any danger of these shattering into small pieces when coming together?
#8
Great deal - even over at DX they're about £20.

These are great fun !
#9
cheaper off auction sites, but a good price none the less.

I'm no chemist but nickel (incredibly tough as is used in coins) is one of the 4 metals that can be made magnetic at room temperature and it is normally used as an alloy with iron (again pretty damn tough) to make a magnet so unless you're superman (or drop something incredibly heavy on it) then I doubt youd be able to crush/break something spherical made of an iron/nickel alloy

hear, hear - it's a real concern - it does happen - definitely must not be given to swallowers and they must be packed away after use.

Hot! Although at the moment I don't have enough money to spend on useless crap like this. If it were any other time, I'd get it
#13
3 for 2 makes it £8 a set but then there's £4 delivery but also 8% Quidco. So if you get 6 sets it's roughly £8 a set delivered. I was tempted to buy that and make some uber-ball structure but I can't really justify £48 on something so frivolous right now.

Think they are similar to these

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83EsrhVjYuM

He mentions he has bought the cheap ones off ebay and they lasted 2 days before losing there magnetisim, and the paint all came off.

These ones look ok though

the 'auction' ones mentioned just search for magnetic balls but they are unbranded ones rather than official science museum ones like these!
