Get offers almost daily in my spam folder direct from them offering me the platinum version for £19.99. So if you really feel the need to buy cd burning software in 2014, just sign up on their website. Be prepared for around 400 email offers a year from them though. Really who burns disks now ?
I do, using IMGBurn which is free

Couldn't agree more. Imgburn is definitely just as good. Point was Nero is a waste of money IMHO
Ah... I don't feel very well after that comment Oneday.

I fell for this when it was posted for £15 (ish) using the yank trick... In my defense though, I had has a few pints at the time!
At least it wasn't using the pints trick with a few yanks in you.

Have to wonder what Nero can do now that free apps like imgburn can't do nowadays...
It just demands you pay more and more if you want to do something different. As you say, free progs do everything this can. Still like Nero Video though THB

[quote=applejammer] People still burn optical media?
Not only that but also love to throw away £14.17 for a soft which does exactly the same as similar free ones.
Genuine question, which free packages offer the same as the whole Nero suite?
ImgBurn works fine, but not in the same league as Burning ROM.
Windows Movie Maker is again ok (and I like it for simple projects), but not close to Nero Vision and Nero Recode.

Can you please be more specific on above points?
that explains it...thanks
John-boi: that's because x86 IS 32bit mate. "x64" is 64 bit.

I know the naming is weird but x86 program files is the "legacy" one to support 32bit, the one without x86 is the 64bit.

In short 32bit apps and dlls go in "Program Files x86"

64bit apps go in "Program Files".

32bit dlls will not work with 64bit apps and vice versa.

Seriously guys, don't buy this crap, I didn't listen to the nay-sayers above, I thought nah, Nero will make it simpler than the two or 3 freeware tools I use already. It DOESN'T! Damn recode encodes totally the wrong language into your file, the preview window plays one incorrect language, and the final video encodes another, the issue was first raised 3 versions and as many years ago.

It's seriously frustrating that I actually paid for this crap that their support team has no interest in fixing! It's a bloated pile of buggy rubbish that can all be done with freeware.

I'm seriously annoyed that I gave nero those £14.17, n ot because I care about losing the money, but that a company that releases crap like this with that kind of attitude doesn't deserve ANY money. I wish I had set fire to £14.17 and saved myself from the high blood pressure!

Don't do it to yourself! ImgBurn, MakeMKV Beta, DVDFlick, Daemon Tools Lite, etc will do the job for you, better, and for free.

Got to say i agree a pile of crap. First caused my system to not load to desktop had to remove using system restore then reinstalled, it worked ok so thought great only £14 for a blu ray player...well doesn't play blu ray discs on my system I have dual core celeron 1.5ghz sandybridge core but nero tech support says my system isn't up to playing blu rays with nero.

Funny that because the free program VLC with the blu ray codec plays blu rays fine.

So glad I didn't play full price my computer is better off without it

Mine is about 7 years old and plays them, Core 2 6600. Sound is a bit quiet though.
Can't get VLC to work at all, looking at the forums its still pretty flaky, hit and miss

play blu rays with vlc

Yep, that's the site I originally tried :-) Seems to vary per machine and disc as to whether or not it'll work

Even though my vlc is in the x86 programs it only worked with the 32 bit dll

Why has this been expired? It is still live. I've just ordered it!

I had an email to say the expiry date was after 2 days, I didn`t know they will extend it for another week, maybe longer?

Bought not really bothered with Nero for ages, but this is an incredible deal.
Thanks.
For £13-odd I'm tempted beyond belief. But Nero 2012 is perfectly fine and hasn't let me down. Oh wait. Couple of times with Blurays its let me down, but so have other progs I have, with same job that produced the failure. I'm tempted. VERY

I'm not going to use it as the Nero suite is far too bloated nowadays but I don't see how something thats free can't be a good deal.

Heat added :)

The unofficial "lite" version of years ago was good... if their current one really is lite then it should be better than their bloated suite.

Best off just using InfraRecorder or CDBurnerXP - both FOSS.
Nice software.. Well spotted, its a bit basic but obviously thats because it's the light version..
Heat added :3
Ashampoo free is better?
Another freebie Hotukdeal

Great find - I am still using Nero Micro (an unofficial stripped down version of Nero 7 and 8), so I'm guessing this is something similar?

Can anybody please confirm that it doesn't contain any additional bloatware, adverts etc?

Cheers,

Su

[edit] Just tried to install and it insists on installing some sh*tty Ask Toolbar before going ahead. FAIL.

Thanks but i will continue to use -[url=" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.imgburn.com/index.phpAs its free and more feature packed
Likewise - and it's portable! Last Nero I liked was V6 - fast and simple.... But great option for those who need data burning and don't already having something that works well..
Is it safe to use...any free program that asks you to "scan for outdated drivers" must surely be dodgy right?

Yes it's safe - at least it doesn't install dodgy drivers ;)

I use ImgBurn both at work and at home - in fact we ship it on our systems having just scrubbed the malware that Nero Essentials OEM is off our systems.

And frankly, I wouldn't touch Nero anything thesedays - it's horrific bloatware!

anything free is a bonus for me !! ;-)

What planet do you live on - yes it's limited but it's also free.

I use CDBurnerXP on my Vista 64 bit machine and it does everything that this Nero does, plus burn DVD movies, music CDs, in fact, anything you want. And it's free.

Suddenly this limited (hobbled) Nero doesn't seem such a good deal.

Cold.
deathtrap3000;5905848

Wish I'd seen this info before I uninstalled bloated Nero 8 and put the free Nero 9 on. I was annoyed to see there isn't even a facility for burning audio discs!

I will try CDBurner XP - I really like the look of its simple interface.

does blu-rays too.

The free version of Starburn doesn't. However, the free version of Ashampoo Burning Studio does.
Thanks H&R added..
