max you'll get on 200mps is about 10mb
Not sure how you get to that. I get my full broadband speed with these (about 13 - 14 Mbps). But if you want to pay the extra for the 500Mbps then OK, but this is still a good price for these.

It has a "pick-a-plug" feature that shows via green/amber/red LED indicating what sort of speed you are getting. If you are looking to extend your internet into other rooms these should be fine. If you are looking to stream 1080p HD video around your house from a NAS/media server then you would want 500Mbps ones (but that will obviously cost more).
They are both based on the HomePlug AV standard so "should" give the same result, but who knows.
Pretty much yes. To ensure the connection is enrypted, press the security button on both adaptors after they are connected. Easiest to do that in same room then move it to the other room. (encrypt it in case it reaches to your neighbours wiring).
8, according to the FAQ.
The following figures are maximum # of nodes you can add to a logical network.
HDX101, HDXB101, HDXB111 – 15 nodes
XE102, XE102G, WGX102, WGXB102, XEPSB1001, XE103, XE103G, XET1001, XETB1001, XE104, XEB1004 – 16 nodes
XAV101, XAVB101, XAV1004, XAVB1004, XAV2001, XAVB2001, XAV1501, XAVB2501 – 64 nodes
XAV1101, XAVB1601, XAV2101, XAV1401, XAV1301 – 8 Nodes,
Whether these work for you is dependent entirely on the state of your house's wiring. You might get excellent results, or they might not work at all. "Your mileage may vary", as they say.

I have a old set of 200mps TP-Link ones and i can get 40+ with no trouble

Thanks polly69, ordered from amazon. I have to agree with your logic questioning.
i.e. I could use the extender to pick up from the Devolo Dlan 200?
Make note though that all these adaptors are actually only half the speed, but in two directions. i.e. 100mbps up/down.
