High-speed built-in ADSL2+ modem, AC750 Wi-Fi speed
802.11ac wifi for the newer device that can connect to ac wifi
4 Lan ports and i believe and USB 2.0
Gigabit Ethernet WAN
Works with DSL internet service providers so BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet

i believe sky have issues with third party modems making setup much more complicate and that virgin is something different so doesn't work with them

Would post a link to the net gear page but can't seem to find that anymore but here is the general one:
https://www.netgear.com/home/?cid=wmt_netgear_organic

Good mid-range router for replacing the one that came with the provider?

Alternatively for a bit more (£65) is the Netgear R6220
but seems to come under the wifi router category so not sure if it works the same way

https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-R6220-100UKS-802-11ac-Broadband-Connections/dp/B01GHPJ7SW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480511497&sr=8-1&keywords=r6220+netgear

which is a bit faster
and maybe a better range ?

the netgear link for the product is:

A dual band router with a built-in modem? Very useful considering most ISP provided routers are shocking.
Shame it's DSL but good for some I'm sure.

Thanks OP

O think this router has beam forming as well but does urs have a better range? it is definately faster but i think my max speed os 40mb/s so 500-130 should make no difference to me ?

Yes even 300mb wireless can reach much higher potential throughout than a 40mb Fibre connection, the beamforming on the VR600 is only available for the 5GHz band not 2.4GHz (probably just disabled in firmware), only the more expensive VR900 has it on both 2.4GHz/5GHz bands, marketing decision it seems...
I've tested models with and without beamforming, not sure it makes that much difference, if I needed further range I'd just buy one of those cheap £15 wireless booster that probably extends the range much further.

oops posted this on ur thread too but your saying that the faster it is the better the output even with a 40mb fibre connection . Hardwired my xbox and get about 15mbs downloading games so would it matter if it was ur one or the cheaper version here for general wifi downloads

I am indeed. Looking at replacing my router as though it's good, it could be better.
