70 quid and no gig E?

i have one of these, been using it for about a year now. It works pretty well and there are compatible usb, pci and pcmcia cards available. Also the new firmware updates the router to full N status.

The main problem i have with it is the range coverage. i live in a four story house and the signal doesnt get from the top to bottom too well. Having said that i dont think any wireless router would fair too well. I also use powerline 200mbit av adapters to bridge the top and bottom floors. If you have a big house or lots of tick walls consider powerline adapters as they seem to be better in thoes cases.

This is an excellent router, the only thing I would say is I set one up for a friend and it was DOA, the replacement worked fine and is still working today, I set another up for another friend which worked fine for about 8 months then failed, Netgear customer support is a little odd can take upto 14 days for a replacement unless you use their two premium options which I think was £15 for 3-5 days or £25 for next day delivery? Not very good/fair for home users!
When they work they are excellent, easy to setup, fast and good coverage, voted hot.
I am a fan of Netgear products the DG834 series was excellent.

Anyone know if this will work on BE network?
#7
I've got one (6 months old) and I would find it difficult to recommend.

To be fair, it syncs faster than any of my other routers, but if the power goes off then it has to be left off for about 30 to 40 minutes before it will restart. When it was new it only required a few seconds. Otherwise you get a red power light indicating an error and it doesn't work. The amount of time it has to be left off has increased as it has got older.

If you check Netgear's forum you'll find it is a fairly common problem for their pre N routers.

It works fine on Be, it gets a higher speed from my line than the standard Be modem.

I don't think it works with the Be Pro product out of the box although there is a revised firmware which resolves that

This is similar to why we returned the second one, when powering on it would illuminate all the lights but nothing would happen the lights would just remain on. I had to leave the unit for 30 minutes unplugged then switch on but after a while this stopped working. The replacement by Netgear was superb and is working like a dream! They are good routers when they work...
