I know this was 50.00 like 9 months ago, but nothing around this price now, and for the past few.
Been looking for a NAS, I know this has a love hate fan base, but so does every computer device. Seems best option as everywere they are around 70.00 but this has a FREE 500GB WD Green drive which fetches £30.00+

Oh dear god - not the STORA again.
Search previous posts for the storage equivalent of a war crime.

Nice price but a bit like saying 'cheap punch in the face!'
Have some heat for effort though.

Got one of these about a year ago from ebuyer for around the same price with the free hard drive. I can't honestly say that I can give this my full recommendation. Although it works, there are still some concerning issues (head in hard drive in array occasionally knocking, software glitches on mirroring).

If you're still bent on getting one, there's a couple of important things to know...

> Don't throw away the box, as need the bar code as proof...
> Be prepared to do some hard work setting this up. If they haven't updated it already, you will need a firmware upgrade. It was giving me hell for the first couple months, and for a lot others, but this update seems to have done the trick.

Mines is set up with a 2TB JBOD array, and through the Netgear web interface, I can access all my files anywhere, stream music and video, view pic etc, and it's quite quick, even through the web. Overall, for the price, it's a good little NAS box, but not for the faint hearted.

Yes, I can say it does work. There are still some bugs in places, and considering the amount of work that the device needs to do, it's understandable. It is very configure able, support user profiles, array settings, backup scheduling, power management and schedule, it supports DMA, so works with my playstation and other network devices.

The only problem is that you do need to be a little tech savvy, and a little patient. The online support is good, complete with an online wiki... but the thing is, you may find you need them.

Great little boxes for the price....negative comments will be from people who had nightmares on the older firmware...recent updates have made them good stable little boxes.

Most important thing is to just bin the crappy netgear software that comes with it. Use the Stora agent app that maps your drives and you'll have problems. Just map standard network drives in Windows instead.

Pretty powerful for the price...mine has happily streamed BluRay rips to my HTPC and AVi's to a 360 at the same time.

I've had one of these for a while now and I've never had any problems with it, including setting up etc.

Streams to my Xbox and 3 laptops just fine.

Very good and quick over the internet and I use offsite storage uploading from the Stora and this too works just perfect.

I've read so many complaints about this nas, but for me and the family, it's just right.

Really sorry if these have already been answered - Can I use this to stream to my PS3 (either wired or wireless) without having the PC turned on? Also, will it auto spin down after a certain amount of time not in use or will it only spin down at set times to save energy? How reliable are these do people think? I've seen some forums/reviews where people slate this, others where they praise it above all else. As far as I can see it's not made of Marmite, so I wonder whats drawing such oposing convictions...?
