Ha, I just bought one of these last week from this company. They gave me an estimated delivery of like over a week away, but it was dispatched the next day using parcel force and arrived the day after (you could even track it online). Quite impressed overall. Also a very good product, it's just plug and play and works right out the box - bear in mind that one of the ports is used up by the ethernet cable in (you can only connect 7 devices). No problems :)

eight ports not enough? I upgraded from eight to sixteen, got one of these:

    is totally silent

Even after reading the wikipedia entry I still have no idea what these do.. you connect your internet or server through an ethernet cable in the back then connect 8 pcs in the same room by ethernet?

This will give 1GIGABIT internally to every device connected to it. So if you have a NAS box, Desktop Pc and and Media Box such as WDTV live or Popocorn Hour all those would connect to this and then this device connects to your router / modem (though this wouldnt be very secure)

If you had a NAS (DS412), 2 PCS, Laptop, 3 Media Boxes this would allow tranfer of files upto 100MB/s between devices

Assuming all your devices are gigabit compatible. Hot deal, voted hot, I'd buy one but already have a Netgear Gigabit switch (different model)

I'm probably one of the VERY few people that has had this happen, but my TP-LINK switch died after 18 months. At that point, I went back to a Netgear 100Mb switch that I've had since the 90's and it still works a treat. Really can't argue with the quality of these Netgear switches in my experience, so they're worth the premium in my opinion.

Why wouldn't it be secure.... please explain... -_-

Agreed, we use this model at work, and they get a hard life; ship them to end customers (not the ones we've kicked round the lab...) never had any issues with them. bargain

He probably means spoofing or mitm. Although in your own house neither should be a concern.

Have this switch myself and it does the job, using all the 8 ports for gigabit connections, all on at once.. the thing doesnt even get warm.

Not really mate, TP link are ghastly. They lack the processing power to actually service the bandwidth of the ports, so if you're expecting reliability when you're maxing out your network, don't bother. Not to mention build quality isn't great.

Netgear switch build quality isn't amazing either. Weak point is usually their PSUs. They certainly are not the best money can buy, and if you believe that you certainly are not experienced enough to make claims like that.

But they are great value. Nobody can claim a netgear switch would ever be anywhere near as good as for example, a Cisco 2960, or HP procurve, but they sure are better value for the majority of people.

Oh, and why do we always get idiots come into threads saying 'I have no idea what this does!' - surely to god, if you were that interested to have viewed a deal, you must have some sort of clue a to why you might be interested in it?

    Sigh.
