NETGEAR R6400-100UKS AC1750 (802.11ac) Dual Band Gigabit Smart Wi-Fi Router (External Antennas Boost Wi-Fi Speeds up to 450 Mbps + 1300 Mbps)

Checked on Camelcamelcamel and it's the lowest it's ever been. Not sure how good this actually is but I've took a punt at this price.

Be sure to update to the latest firmware before use, as a security vulnerability has been fixed:

Compatible with DD-WRT too (min version netgear-r6400 build 29968 20160617)

this is a great router. I have this and no slowdown even after connecting around 12 wifi and 3 Lan devices. Make sure to update your firmware. Netgear released beta firmware around 2 weeks ago for series security vulnerability.

So you need a modem of some sort to use this? … what modem is recommend for use with a phone line with this or is a different router a better bet?

Yeah you will. Great deal but personally I'd go for something with a VDSL modem built in. Easier setup and no need to run two boxes.

Surely it depends on the size of your respective houses!

This or archer c8 focused on wireless signal?

there was a major security flaw discovered with these routers recently: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/12/13/netgear_r7000_r6400_r8000_security/, apparently there is an update available which fixes the issue

Access points are generally better solutions for extending the range of your network. That said, this will almost certainly have better range than most cheap (or ISP provided) routers.

As for whether it'll cover all of your respective houses, that really depends on the size of your house! If you live in a 10 bedroom mansion with stone internal walls, probably not. If you live in an average sized 3 bed semi with stud internal walls, probably.

I have a Netgear d7000 and we'll be moving houses in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if you can plug in your EE usb dongle into D7000 and just use that to share EE mobile broadband while waiting for BT to complete the switchover.

So has every single router brand in the history of routers.

does anyone know that if running DD WRT on this, then will it work with setting up PureVPN on it?

Is this £15 better than the TP-LINK Archer C7 from yesterday?

We have virgin media and want to improve the Wi-Fi.
They look similar to me!

I have been looking at replacing my wireless N setup and been having hard time choosing. Would have had the C7 at £50 but this looks like a good deal too at £65. Check out smallnetbuilder - http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/rankers/router/ranking/AC1750/rev8/214 - You can filter the rankings for what is important for you. I am undecided though on this or the Asus RTAC-68U blooming decisions!

Excellent timing. Xbox one streaming is crap on my bt hub, this should sort things out!

Does anyone know if this supports wake on LAN via an external IP? ie can I log into the router from outside the network and wake up another machine?

I am hoping for the same thing over my crappy Virgin Superhub2. File sharing is a nice bonus too.

Ordered, thanks! This will replace my C7. Hopefully Beamforming will improve AC performance at range
#27
Mine arrived a few moments ago, top service from amazon, wasn't supposed to arrive until tomorrow.
#28
Improved over/with my virgin hub 3.0 from 19mbps to 35-40 all over my 3 bedroom house.
