Netgear ReadyNAS Duo £143.35 price drop at amazon

s123s123

Price of this has recently dropped to £143.35, now even cheaper than the competition.

Good for anyone who's been dilly dallying on whether or not to bag one.

No quidco with amazon but those with nectar cards can collect nectar points. The rate is pretty measly but better than nothing.

Purchase before the end of june and claim a free 500gb hard drive! (thanks to everyone who pointed this out!) link: http://www.netgear.co.uk/freedrive.php

Brilliant little machine, I got one last year and it's never done me wrong. Perfect media server for my PS3 as well as being able to keep all my pictures, documents, etc all well placed. I can access it from anywhere and set all of my TV shows downloading from anywhere too, even my phone. I paid 135 last year but this seems to be about the best price at the moment. I got the free 500 Gb HDD too

Might wanna mention that in the item description then as doesn't mention that on the Amazon description :)

I got one of these last year and was very, very dissapointed with it. Running Squeezeserver it was so agonisingly slow and was difficult to setup. Fine once running but found that I could build a homeserver using Windows 7 and Acer Revo that is infinitely more useful and uses just as little power (c.30watts).

I also think putting "price drop" in the title adds a little bit more drama than is really justified for this deal! It has been previously sold at £139 with the 500GB HDD offer. Maybe this is one of the best prices at the moment, but it is definitely not a hot deal. Sorry to pee on your parade, I just don't think this is a good deal.

Comparing an Acer Revo running Win 7 to a dedicated NAS box is plain stupid.

From your post I think its pretty obvious that, if you could do better with a Revo for your needs, you simply bought the wrong kit for what you wanted.

I got mine for £150 last week, it only arrived yesterday and it was DOA. I ordered an exchange before i noticed the price drop and now i cant be arsed to send it back, wait for my money and order again. hassle isnt worth £6.65.

Got one last year for about £150 with a free 500gb hard disc

Well pleased with it, use it for storage and streaming movies from it.

Also download stuff from it using nzbget

    Excellent piece of kit

Warning though it is a tad noisy (although I beleive you can easily change the fan)

Hot for me. Cheers. Can anyone recommend a good price 1Tb+ hard drive?

For anyone looking at drives, check this list before you buy for compatibility.

Also you'll be given £2 worth of MP3 credit

I bought mine specifically to use with my Squeezeboxes and I'm very happy with the speed things run at. No real problem with set up either and I have no computer training whatsoever. Maybe you got a slightly dodgy one!?

Although not on the official compatibility list I checked on the Netgear forums and several people were using the following drive:

    SAMSUNG 1.5TB F2 Eco Green 32MB S300

I bought two of these and i've had no issues

Why is the comparison stupid? That's an unecessarily offensive and innacurate statement. I wanted to be able to store and stream my media around the house using as little power as possible, for a similar cost. The acer uses much the same amount of power, is almost silent and streams perfectly. Just doesn't have the RAID functionality. For my needs they both do the same thing, one however is significantly better than the other and has far greater flexibility.

Just out of interest, how are you using the Revo as a storage device? I thought it came with a single drive (max 500GB IIRC)?

Because you are comparing a NAS to a Revo + external HDD combo. Completely different storage technologies.

Absolutely not - its a true statement, as you have purcahsed a NAS and expect it to do the job of a server. As mentioned above, completely different technologies.

    Store media = NAS.
    Stream media = server.

One however is significantly better than the other FOR YOUR NEEDS. Its like saying a PC is better than a server - of course it isnt, they are designed to do DIFFERENT tasks.

I could reply going into great detail about how squeezeserver has custom written software specifically for use by both pieces of hardware and then go on to explain the logic behind file serving technology.

    Or simply: http://www.netgear.co.uk/readynasduo.php

ReadyNAS Duo directly streams music, photos and video to existing network media players without a computer

However, I have just seen your recent posts on this and other threads it is clear that you are simply trolling this site so I shall instead leave it here.
