Heat from me. I suspect folks are voting cold because they don't know what this is.

No, I suspect it's because Amazon are still doing this one:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/498652/readynas-duo-rnd2150-1-x-500gb-176-
...for £177, which includes a 500GB drive, in addition to the free one.

They are probably voting cold because this deal gets posted 2-3 times a months minimum. But granted it is a good deal and everytime it gets posted I get a little closer to buying one :)

Perhaps, but given the price difference is about the same as a 500GB HDD will set you back I doubt it.

Can they handle 1 TB or 2 TB hard drives?

Yes, they do. See below for tested compatible disks:

Amazon are also selling this at the same price.

This is a great nas, I purchased one when they were £145. Works well with my xbox , is very well built, small and quiet (after the initial startup)

I have installed a few addon's including Transmission BT client.

edit :actually its £134.99 at ebuyer why does it say £139.99 in title

Because it was posted 3 weeks ago and has since dropped further?

This is an amazing piece of kit, I bought one of these to replace a PC at home that was acting as a file share, and needed constant upkeep, etc. This little device is great and the fact that it's got hot swappable hard drives is just amazing. I've currently got it running with 2 1TB drives, mirrored, but at some point will be upgrading to 2 2TB drives.

I would highly recommend this one. H&R added.

I bought 2 of the bigger brother to these the ones that hold 4 drives, all of these ReadyNAS series are awesome, setup is a breeze.

I got two of them and 8 1TB hard drives put the two NAS's in seperate buildings and use Rsync to backup from one to the other overnight, brilliant piece of kit!

Does anyone know if you'd be able to stream music / videos to an xbox 360 using this?
#14
Can't quite remember but think it's just a case of turning that feature on during the setup

This really needs to be expired as there's been a more up to date deal (with the correct price) posted since - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/537741/netgear-readynas-duo-rnd2000-134-99

I did when I posted that message :) I added a comment so a moderator could see why I think it should be expired!

D'oh, that deal was for Amazon, not ebuyer. Nevermind, this still needs to be expired tho. I've created a new one for ebuyer at 134.99..

Was tempted to get one of these last month but in the end I ended up building a Windows Home Server for around £200 which I can do quite a bit more with.
These are still very good if all you want to do is backup/stream stuff from though.

Yes you can. I stream music and videos via a wireless connection. There is a readdnla client built in that can be used for streaming but i have installed twonkymedia addon which has a few more features.
