I am also in the market for a NAS drive. Personal reviews on Amazon of the 1Tb model, are to put it mildy, somewhat mixed. Can one of our resident experts provide a heads up please?

The niggle for me is that the current firmware insists on mirroring if you use two drives. I am only interested in having the full capacity. (JBOD mode). They did issue a firmware revision that supports this, but it was withdrawn.

I don't think that that the development of alternative (hacked) firmwares are as advanced on this unit as they are on some others.

Cheap if it does what you want.

Thanks for the links DubDriver. Didn't realise this model has been discussed before. I'll have a browse through the threads. Got two desktops and a wi fi laptop in the family and want something central to do back- ups and if poss stream movies.

I have a 1Tb version of this and have added a further 1Tb drive for back-up. I don'y use the extra software you have to pay for as I find it does everything I want it to - I stream full HD 1080p video to my PS3 with no problems at all, and I particularly like the fact you can arrange for this to be shut down and started up automatically once per day. I recommend it highly, especially at this price!

Tempted to go for this, seems a very good price for such a high-end NAS. Would quite like to replace my ageing Buffalo Linkstation.

EDIT: Just read the posts on here by Blacklodge about the STORA, seems its a total joke product with many inherent flaws and poor support, so I won't be buying one.
