Godaddy offer 10 year dot-coms for £20 or there abouts. Might be worth it for some as renewal prices are rarely so favourable.
I want to build a site for the sports club I am a member of, really just to build up my own skills more than anything else. Having it published under a domain name will just make it that bit easier to get feedback from others as I am going along. But as it is for my benefit more than the club's they aren't going to want to pay the running costs (at least until there is something substantive finished), so keeping it all very cheap is a must.
With NameCheap, GoDaddy, etc at least the renewal price is more or less the same. Network Solutions want $34.99, which is their regular price to register without the code above. I use name.com myself for all my important domains.

Where is the cheapest web hosting, anyone know?

Depends what you want to do with the hosting. I use Evo Hosting, 1&1, FatCow, Cyberwurx and Brainhost. I only signed up to Brainhost as they have a dollar a month promo.

EdSB
Cheapest would probably be a discount code for a month for 1 cent at HostGator. I'd recommend StableHost though, I'm on the $5.95 per month plan which is a pittance and it's a really great service.

Yeah, use code HOTUKDEALS for the 1c hosting.

Cheapest hosting - how about free with Google sites?
Agreed you need to use their templates however for the average personal site they are good and simple to set-up / edit.

.co.uk's are cheapest at heartinternet.co.uk - I use them for my whole portfolio.

BEWARE. HI are selling below cost price. They must have ways of making up the difference and more by other charges. Or it is an unsustainable price. Be careful you read the small print - do they reserve the right to increase costs/impose transfer out charge or just make it difficult?

I have converted £2.99 excl Vat like it shows on their website into a price which includes Vat.

But where does it show on the website?

The deal link doesn't show any prices and when I try to put a .co.uk into the basket it comes up at $25.48 for 2 yrs with a .com at $29.74 for 1 year.

i just re-added a domain to basket and now it does not show in the orange banner which comes up when you add the 25% code, £2.99 GBP for a new Domain (.com, .net, .org, .us, .biz, .info, .name, .eu, .co.uk) - offer ends soon , so they must have taken it off, but definately was adding .com .co.uk into basket for £2.99 excl vat when i added this deal. sorry guys
But you have to pay the full renewal price, unless you transfer it. Don't know whether or not they charge to transfer your domain out.

Just go to name.com and use code KLEPTEMBER for £5.72(ish) .com & ,net, and £5.25(ish) for .org. Once you've bought go into your account and add whois privacy for free with the code FREEWHOIS.

I can't seem to get that price. Please explain further OP.

Works fine here

Have you added the domain to your hosted space?

I have a home package with 1&1, I got the two name servers from my 1&1 home package and applied them at Network Solutions but nowt, what have I done wrong?
After the free period is over it's $34.99/yr. So I'm assuming they're either hoping you don't change registrar before then or they will make it as difficult as possible for you to do so...

Just to contrast Namecheap only charge $9.29/yr

Network Solutions have a terrible reputation and are known to hijack domain names. This really is one of the worst registrars ever.

My advice is to find a reputable registrar and pay the measly £4/year.

Has anyone managed to get their domains working yet? - I have changed the DNS but nothing, did it nearly a week ago too.
