Buy the book (by Neil Gaiman) and let your imagination take you on the journey rather than this low budget production. It's alright if you haven't read the book, if you've read the book before you watch this you'll be sorely disappointed.

Interesting comment as the tv series was done first and the book afterwards :)

I loved the show at the time but there's no getting away from the fact that it was done on a budget. They 'filmed' it on videotape too, which not only looked worse than proper film (and denied us the possibility of a later higher quality release as home media improved) but meant that the US networks wouldn't consider buying it. Which kind of defeated the purpose of saving the money from tape vs film.

At the price though, great for fantasy fans.

Just finished watching this - it was enjoyable but I can see how a book would yield so much more.

Quidco for Play is better?

Book was before the series. There was another book released after the series with extra bits he added in. Heat and shiz for you though!

Great bit of cult viewing, loved it when it came out and started watching it again a year or so ago on my ipod and it still stands up well today, might be shot on tape but a good story is a good story

The fist book was written alongside the series - Gaiman used it as an expanded canvas and an opportunity to fit in stuff the series didn't have the budget for. Later he revised this with an extended version (with more Croup and Vandemar :) )..

I think MSN videos still have the whole series up if anyone wants to "try before they buy" - its an original and unusual series and well worth this price.

As a avid Sci-Fi/Fantasy reader I watched the first 10 minutes of this when it first aired and turned off - so painfully hammy, clichéd and just pants

Like others, I really liked the book, where you really feel the magical/fantasy nature. The TV series, unfortunately, is more like watching a bunch of weirdos hamming it up on the underground. I'd seriously recommend trying it out on MSN before you buy.
