iPhone 8GB are reduced to $399 in the US. iPhone 4GB dicountinued. Reseller already pilled up iPhones to sell them unlocked would now a financial problem. Like on EBay lol

cold, wait for cheaper

Not only are they the latest version, they are also cheaper than the current models being sold by other retailers. So if you are about to buy an apple ipod be careful to order it from Apple direct.
I wouldn't be surprised if the prices of the new "Classic" ipod on the Apple website are a special deal, because they look incredibly good value.
cold, wait for cheaper

Sorry but I disagree - these are good prices. Compare the new 80GB Video version (£159 from Apple) and 160GB version (£229) with the 5th gen ones on offer from the following:
Amazon - 30GB - £178 (black), £155.86 (white) / 80GB - £210.69 (black)
John Lewis - 30GB - £178.95 (black)
Tesco - 30GB - £178.97, 80GB - £238.94
Dixons - 30GB - £177.77 (Black), £158.98 (white) / 80GB - £213.02 (black), £213.48 (white)
Currys - 80GB - £230 (black or white)
Comet - 30GB - £179 (black or white) / 80GB - £239 (white).

There's going to be an awful lot of retailers having to drop their ipod prices for 5th generation kit over the next few weeks - look out for some bargains.

Very tasty - especially the touch screen one! What will be even better is that, if they do what they did last time, they will sell off the now obsolete iPods through their Clearance section - they mark them as refurbs, but I bought a generation 1 Nano from them when gen 2 came out and, trust me, it was brand new!

these new ones are cheaper then the 5th Gen model and they are thinner with better metal casing and new features. These are prices just came out today. Be awhile for a reduce price. Unless John Lewis sell at same price then we can use discount code. But no engraving!
#6
At least the prices of these are more sensible then previous iterations.

*Sony take note - slapping an RRP of £199 for an 8gb*

jesus people if you can wait a few days for OTHER retailers to get the new stock then it will be cheaper.

I have never seen the cheapest option to buy an ipod from apple direct, unless your a student or are buying recon units.

But what do I know, just hot vote this to the front page

Sure you can wait for a few days to get them cheaper - or order from Comet who already have them on their website - but at the same price as Apple.
What we will see is all the old, now redundant and expensive, 5th generation stock being cleared out.
If the 80GB 6th gen is now £159 we should expect to see the older model start retailing at about £139 I reckon, and maybe the 30GB version will be cleared out at about £125?
Some real bargains will start coming up, and I can't see many retailers lowering the price of the new models while they have so much of the older stock to shift.
#9
Hmmm. The 5th gen model just became obsolete.
Anyone selling an 80gb 5G is gonna be pretty annoyed at this post methinks. The value just went down by at least 25%.

New product is not a "hot deal".

If you look beyond the price tag you real find the REAL deals! That's absolute basics

Vouchers... Apple have none
Quidco... 3% lol

If you can wait a few days you will be able to get over 10% off!

Other retailers have been clearing old stock for the last month, some will still have some left so if you're going for a video ipod or a shuffle I'd grab one of the older models as they'll be dirt cheap!

I sold my old 60gb for over £150, 20 minutes before the conference :D

Not really if in 2 or 3 days time you can get 10-20% off the Apple prices, pretty cold IMO

How is anything selling at the RRP a hot deal?

No it isn't.

Oh yes it is..................he's behind you! :giggle:
#16
It would have to be a new product that is being sold appreciably cheaper at one retailer than all the others. This is not the case here......is it? The REAL hot deals will be when Apple sell their now discontinued ipods as 'pretend' refurbs.
#17

I don't believe people will be selling the new versions at 10-20% off the Apple prices. If they did this it would make them sell the 5th Gen kit at about 30-40% less than their current prices. I think most suppliers will keep the prices for the new kit at roughly the RRP for a while. Best deals will be for the older kit, if that's what you want.
My view on this as a good deal is that I was within a whisker of buying a 60GB Creative Zen from Amazon for £159.99 yesterday, because that was a great price. This now looks like a much better deal.
#18
Is the student discount no longer valid on ipods, the 4gb nano is actually coming up as more at £99.01.
#19
I think the best bet would be to find a retailer that offers a great cashback deal to new or existing customers on Quidco, and buy from them.
What would be the best retailer of iPods on Quidco please?
#20
My 5G's screen broke 2 weeks ago & the sound only outputs through one earphone so looks like I'll be getting an 80GB 6G.
#21
What would be the best retailer of iPods on Quidco please?

Probably the likes of John Lewis or Boots, especially if they have other voucher codes or advantage points deals at the same time.

Yeap I agree with that.

This is the RRP that Apple sells them at so I personally wouldnt say that this is a hot deal.

Wait a couple of weeks, then they would be in other shops and chances are there would be at least some offers or maybe use them with voucher codes.

I do get that the OP says this is cheap, as £159 for 80GB iPod is a very good price. But price of technology always falls. Tbh this generation of the iPod Classic isnt completely revolutionary - it simply builds much on the old design hence the low price.

Compare this to the completely new iPod Touch for £259...

THEY ALWAYS DO THIS TO ME:x

I'm always sitting here going, yeah I'm happy with my current portable music setup, lets look at buying something else...a laptop for uni

THEN BANG

I want a new ipod...do I need one..no, my video ipod is still class, but I WANT ONE OF THESE:w00t:

deary me...
#24
I hope they fit into my current iPod speaker setup :w00t:
#25
Jees, comet have acted quickly, had the new ipods on their site almost straight after the announcement. got a friends who works there and mentioned they would have them. didn't think they would be THAT quick though. got mine already. go get them peeps!!
#26
The best option is to find someone in the family who is at university and ring up apple and get a "higher education" price its roughly the price of the ipod ex vat. Enjoy....:giggle:
#27
my mozilla firefox cant open apple website, it's just make my pc slow and dead, wtf :(
#28
The new Nano looks kind of odd. A bit fat with a small clickweel if you get my meaning: Top heavy!!

(Yes I know it's due to the larger screen size). :giggle:
#29
They are already selling some of the 5th gen ipods, nano's and shuffles as refurbs, don't know whether its a good price or not tho....

Have you not heard of vouchers? or quidco?

Of course no one is going to sell a brand new must have item below the RRP, that would be crazy. But apple offer no real discounts as far as vouchers and quidco are concerned.

The likes of boots and John Lewis will be a lot cheaper within the week, when the new stock gets updated onto their websites

they have "refurbished" silver shuffles for £34, seems good as thats the only colour they have kept into the new range of shuffles

Apple often have £ off vouchers (usually £23 off £250 or so). Not sure if there are any active right now.
#35
HI, how do you get student discounts on these Ipods? None of the links seem to show any discounts, even at the checkout. Also, which apple education site should I be using, I'm in Year 13 and haven't applied to uni yet.

I feel archos 704 WiFi is much better player. I was in dilemma whether to invest in ipod or archos..any pointers?

Ordered an 80 gig "classic" this morning. The touch doesn't have enough storage for what i need.
My 4th gen ipod died last week after 5years of good use and I really need to carry all my music with me. My 1gig Nano is great but i spend so much time picking the tunes i want that it drives me up the wall
#40
I always buy from Apple thanks to a 35% press discount :)

But a new product in stock at RRP can be a Hot Deal. Remember when we couldn't find a Wii?
