For years I've used Palm Pilots, but I need a replacement. Am I correct in thinking that this would do the same sort of organiser things as a Palm? I don't need a phone, just the ability to link to our wireless network and sync to my desktop. Will it run all the iPhone apps that don't actually need a phone to work?

Thanks for any help.
#8
Yeah it pretty much does everything the iphone does app-wise if you're connected to Wi-Fi. I've had mine for about a week now and love it. I'm even considering getting mi-fi so I can connect wherever I am. It's still awesome offline though, lots of good games you can download and of course plenty of space for music/video.

I got one at christmas time from amazon for £205

Been thinking of getting one for a while, and at this price I'm seriously considering it!

Does anyone know if there will be a new release of iPod Touch's anytime soon though? Because I hear there's a new iPhone coming this summer, so thought a new iPod may follow...?

Thanks OP. Voted hot

It's mid product cycle at the mo so i dont think they'll be updated till June earliest, or September like usual

Don't forget if you plan to Jailbreak it, the latest firmware ( 3.1.3) is not Jailbreak-able yet! These would probably come with older firmware though at a guess

Thank you, I'm fully aware of that. But note that I said "anytime soon", meaning SOON :p

The 3rd gen ipod touch was released near the end of last year... So I'm guessing you won't see another one till at least the end of this year (for the christmas sales). Apple are happy enough to sit on their little perch at the moment though, the way sales are for the ipod touch at the moment.

Hot deal though, even though the 2G model is actually better imo, 6 hours more battery time according to official apple figures, the 3G model is just supposed to be faster, so it sucks more power. Personally i found no noticeable difference between my old 2G ipod touch and my iphone 3GS.

If spending that amount of money would prefer to get it from a reputable retailer.

I got one of the 2g's for £186 from Sainsburys for my £15yr old daughter.

She couldn't give a monkeys about 2g /3g - It has 32gb for ALL her music, ALL her photos, she's downloaded about 50 apps / games and has given me a list of TV programmes and movies that she wants urning into MP4 format. I'm so impressed by it that I'm asking a mate to bring me a 64gb one back from Floirda when he goes in April.

..... and I hate Apple!

cheaper, £202.00 free std delivery. edit: or possibly £197.00 -see below

tip - if you look at page and then click to leave, you get a pop up saying they'll give you £5.00 off a spend over £200.00, but 'only if you buy today' don't know if this is just something that happens everyday!! or really is just today, but that brings it down to £197.00 for the 3g

I got my touch from Amazon at Christmas for £205, then it went up to £209. Nice bit of kit though, well worth the money.

I just ordered an 8 gig one for £124 which isn't too bad a price for the boyf... hope this helps x o x o

there are some very reputable ebay stores on ebay (not private sellers but stores who sell ipods etc).

just look for ones with very good feedback - the store i got mine from had 11000 positive feedback and there were always 20 or more positive posts per day for the apple touches they were selling.

the ipods they sell are US models but thanks to apples international warranty are valid for registration in the UK. i also bought an additional one year warranty from the same seller for £13 - same price on tghe apple store £40.

here is that site although there are other ones out there

http://*********.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-SEALED-APPLE-IPOD-TOUCH-64GB-3RD-GENERATION_W0QQitemZ180464611235QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_PortableAudio_MP3Players?hash=item2a04876fa3

search for seller called "thecheetahexpress"

also for those who are claiming that the 3rd gen is not that much better than a 2nd gen - sounds like sour grapes to me as there is a big difference - the speed of the 3rd gen is quite noticible over my daughters 8 gb touch , also the 3rd gen touches (not the 8GB ones which are the same hardware as the 2nd gen) are quicker than the new iphones.

why is it that this site does not allow you to link to an ebay site when the majority of other sites do for example the avforums or moneysavingexpert al allow ebay links even ebay bargains

good deal I got 2nd generation for £165 when they came out, 8gb...

Saying that theres really very little need for that much space unless you watch like more than 10 series of video based shows.

Also the whole 3rd generation thing is ********, there exactly the same as the 2nd generation ones, which are almost the same as the 1st ones but they have a speaker that you dont ever need or would want to use. They just have the software updated. Whopie do.

Is this purely just to impress people or to store films on? Im guessing illegal films unless you have bought thousands of digital files...
