Best price around. Can't believe the Comet one, which is £5 more expensive, gets red hot while this has yet to hit 100° in over 24 hours.....

Same here, deals go like that though for some reason:? Although I posted this 1, i'm looking for a 16gb, but can't find any good deals about.

Might sound pedantic but there is no 3rd gen 8GB model, only the 32GB and 64GB received internal upgrades and can be classed as 3rd gen.
#4
not sure you get a 16gb 3rd generation.... the 8gb is basically the 2g one...

the 32 and the 64gb have a faster processor in and other stuff... (better apple earphones

Correct.

The iPod 3G 8GB does NOT exist.

Similar here, trying to decide if I can warrant either a 16/32gb itouch, or an iphone... reading one of the reviews (I think on cnet, but not certain) they were a little disappointed with what was left off the larger itouch units compared to the latest iphones... decisions! Really did fancy the 16gb itouch for around £229 though...

As for the comet deal getting hot, isn't that because of the free speaker unit?
#7
Noticed the 32GB itouch (3rd GEN) has reduced to £205.99 on Amazon. Pretty good price for it and around £20+ cheaper than most retailers.

the comet one comes with a free £15 unit.... there are other deals out there like £25 itunes vouchers, £15 itunes voucher and a charger.. especially usefuly if going for a touch as you are so tempted to get all those useful and useless apps..

i think its just a matter of going for the deal that suits you.... wait for an argos voucher get a £10 voucher back... etc...

Tesco have the same for £148.97 and if you are a clubcard holder , you will have got a voucher this week for £15.00 off an ipod touch. This along with the clubcard points makes the Tesco one a little cheaper.

Im not totally up on my apple ipods or touch's, but how can this device go online, send emails and have online maps? I thought the touch was more or less the iphone, but without the calls, text and online features such as the itunes store? Is this only through wi-fi?

Would it be better / cheaper to go for the iphone then? My son wants one for Christmas and if this was a better option then I would go for this instead.

If he wants to do those things outside of Wi-fi, then the Iphone is certainly the more flexible option. However, it probably won't be cheaper once you factor in the cost of the 18/24 month pay monthly contract (- it's also available on payg but that starts at £440 for the 16gb model); Tariff details are on O2's website and now also on Orange. It would depend on his existing mobile phone contract - you do get unlimited Internet and Wi-fi via the BT Openzone/Cloud network.

I noticed that at one point today the 32gb on Amazon went down as low as £201.99.
And at two points last week the 64gb on there went down by £40 to around £250 – the fluctuation on the one was crazy. Worth keeping an eye on for those in the market – I'm certainly considering the 32gb.

Nono, definitely get the touch if it's for a young son - it's far cheaper than an iPhone (which requires a contract for 18 months minimum and isn't cheap!). I have an iPhone myself but a touch sounds ideal for your situation.

Good deal, but i've given up on iPod's now.

Buy one now & a newer on is just around the corner.
I know that's how all tech works, but it's so obvious on the iPods imo - mainly because they purposefully leave features out.

Next touch will have a camera (like the nano)
5th gen = fm tuner
6th gen = bluetooth....

All companies always purposefully leave things out. Some companies even release numerous models every year. Atleast Apple stick to 1 new Touch release roughly every year.

Thanks for that. Yes a bit expensive for the iphone. A bit expensive as well for the ipod , for it to fall out of a school blazer pocket on the way home from school...........

It's been discontinued.

Bizarre, absolutely strange. Why've you given up? What, you want them to stop developing their technology and just release one version of it and leave it for what, five years? :w00t: Err, you're crazy.

Of course it's obvious, it's development! They release new iPods every year (in September)! It's nothing new. Quite why you're annoyed is beyond me.

As the the original post says, it's for the Ipod touch not the Iphone. An unclocked Iphone is way more expensive than that. As well as listening to music, there is wi-fi, the Apple App-store for access to a wide range of additional applications (some free others paid for) and video playback. Being Apple there is usually very little discount available. Of course if you only want to listen to music there are some less expensive mp3 players either from Apple or from other manufacturers.

The 2G and 3G touches already have A2DP Bluetooth streaming in them.
