Description is a bit misleading because there is no such thing as a 3rd Gen 8Gb. Only the 32Gb and 64Gb are new, the 8Gb is just the 2nd Gen.

#6
You were.

The 3rd Gen 8Gb doesn't exist. It doesn't use the new processor, ram and GPU that the 32 and 64Gb ones use.

correct, only the 3rd gen 16 and 32gb versions have the faster graphics chip, the 8gb is exactly the same just named 3rd gen.

Taken from Wiki -
"The 8GB model was re-introduced alongside the 3rd generation iPod touch in September 2009, and included the newer iPhone OS 3."

So other than a slightly newer OS, you are correct.

be warned WWDC is soon (worldwide developers conference) June 7-11 2010, Mr Jobs might have a new ipod touch up his sleeve, camera possibly ??

A slightly newer OS that you can just update your 2nd gen 8gb with. It's like saying a sony viao laptop is a new generation if it came pre installed with Vista SP2 instead of SP1...

Even if it is there is nothing new about it. It may come with OS3.0 installed, but any iPod can have it installed too.

There is nothing new about the 8Gb model, its just relaunched under the 3rd Gen name. No new hardware at all.

The OP description suggests that it comes with new hardware which it doesn't.

It's says £132 for me.

No such thing as "Ipod touch 3rd generation"
I bought one of these from Argos a few weeks ago when they were also selling it as a 3rd generation but it did not have 3rd generation (3G) capability and when I called Apple themselves they confirmed they have never made a 3rd generation yet. The current Ipod touch wether 8GB, 32GB or 64GB are all called "Ipod touch 2nd generation late 2009" and the previous versions were called "Ipod touch 2nd generation". I then returned it to Argos who disputed this but called Apple who confirmed this and then they offered a full refund and have since changed there internet page to remove the 3rd generation description although if you look at there link from the ipod page to the accesory bundle there is a description still there saying the pack for the ipod touch 2nd & 3rd generation which they forgot to remove. So I would advise anybody that has bought one of these from any retailer advertising it as 3rd generation that if they are not happy with it then to return it and demand a full refund which you are entiteled by law to since the product has been missold by misrepresentation. The term 3rd generation is recognised worldwide as the ability to connect via a 3g conection which this device does not have. Here is a link to the meaning of 3g for those that will want to argue the term. http://www.answers.com/topic/3g

Ermmm thats a bit wrong /\

3G is a cellular network, whereas 3rd Generation is just a term used to describe the 3rd series of a product (in this case the iPod Touch).

The current 32Gb and 64Gb are the 3rd Gen, not "Ipod touch 2nd generation late 2009". There is only one set of 2nd Gen iPod Touches, nothing to do with "late 2009" or anything like that.

The 1st Gen iPod Touch was the first model released, the 2nd Gen was basically the same as first expect it had a speaker, volume rockers and faster performance. The 3rd Gen Touch is only available in the sizes above 8Gb, and it uses the same processor, ram and GPU found in the iPhone 3GS.

3G and 3rd Generation are two completely different terms, the link you supplied even says that. You are getting confused with the terminology used for the iPhone. The first gen iPhone was called "2G" because it was based on the standard EDGE and GPRS network. The iPhone 3G was based on the 3G network and the iPhone 3GS is just the same but faster.

There has never been a 3rd generation (3G) Ipod touch made yet by Apple.
I was suckered into this by Argos when they were selling it as this also but after trying it out and calling Apple to see what was wrong they told me there was no such Ipod made. The current Ipod touches are called 2nd generation (late2009) instead of the previous which were just called 2nd generation. I returned it to Argos who after contacting Apple offered me a full refund and then also changed there description on there internet site. Anybody who has bought one of these from a retailer describing it is entitled by law to have a full refund as the term 3rd generation, also known as 3G means the ability to connect over networks at a certain speed which if you look at this link will go into detail: http://www.answers.com/topic/3g .

If there are still people who do not beleive this then it is just one quick phonecall to Apple on 0870 876 0753 or 0800 0399901.

I gave the link to the description of the term above but you obviously never read this and also here are the telephone numbers so you may call Apple yourself who make the bloody thing and they can assure you with no doubt whatsoever being the manufacturers inventors whatever you want to call them that they have indeed never made an ipod touch 8GB 3rd generation and that all the new 8GB models are actually called 2nd generation late 2009.

Just call this number for A P P L E 0800 0399901

No need to get angry?

Tbh i'd rather take the advice here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod_touch rather than answers.com

Why are you under the impression that the term "3rd Generation" automatically means the 3G cellular network? i admit its confusing in this instance, but there are definitely 3 generations of the iPod Touch.

It even says on the Apple Store that its the 3rd Gen!! http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch?mco=MTAyNTQzMDY

Not so, in the ipod's case it refers to the 3rd Generation of the product.

The 3G from cellular networking also refers to the 3rd generation of mobile phone network.

well if you want to take wikpedia as being gospel you got to remember it can be written by anybody without any subject knowledge but I have bought one of these and have been refunded by the major high street seller (Argos) who after severall phonecalls did eventually recognise the error and subsequently removed there terminology from there advertising not just at my local branch but there entire company. And I did get a full cash refund there and then so I would tend to beleive that I am giving you the correct information here as I have been in direct contact with Apple and also have an email with a referance number which was given to Argos manager to contact them for confirmation. [I] am sorry if you disagree but I can not make it any more simple than this and will not be going into this matter any further with you. I only stated this to help other customers who may have bought this item on the basis of 3g ability as I did and to let them know that they are indeed entitled to a full refund. This is information is only of any use to those that may be buying or have already bought this device on this assumption and I am guessing that does not apply to you anyway.

Its your fault for not doing research on the product before you bought it then.

Apple themselves state that its called "3rd Generation", so i dunno why you are even bothering to argue about it because you are wrong.

PLEASE PLEASE do show me the link to where Apple themselves call the new apple ipod touch 8GB (3rd generation).

I can not beleive they lied to me on the phone and made Argos give me a full refund when it really was 3rd generation! omg

What?!

I have been saying from my first post in this thread that the 8Gb isn't the 3rd Generation. It was re-launched when the new models came out, but it is exactly the same as when it first came out.

You said that there is no such thing as the iPod Touch 3rd Generation, im saying and have been saying this whole time that the 32Gb and 64Gb are 3rd Generation.

You said in your post at the top: "The current Ipod touch wether 8GB, 32GB or 64GB are all called "Ipod touch 2nd generation late 2009" "

This is completely wrong. The 8Gb is still 2nd Gen, but the 32Gb and 64Gb are the brand new 3rd Generation model.
