and the latest info on why it doesn't ship with Flash unlike all previous versions? If you ask Apple its because they want to give the user the choice...if you ask the review community iys because the battery life is cut by 33% when flash is installed....pretty poor given they promote the battery as a key selling point and yet its not when you surf the web feature rich...

These look awesome, however, its a lot of money for what is essentially a core 2 duo ULV powered netbook

I think Apple have dropped the ball a bit, but it will sell millions just like the iPad

(however, I'd rather have the lowest spec Macbook Air 11inch as opposed to the top model iPad)
#3
Could those voting this down please post where they have seen it cheaper. I thought this site was a place for deals not for if you like the product or not?

not a Macbook fan, more of a Vaio man myself, however it is cheapest i've seen so voted hoted
#5
for 799 you get a 6gb vaio with DVDr and 3G
but this is very light
Almost value for money

I still would not be seen dead using it in public.

Here we go, you can get Dell this and Acer that for £Xxx cheaper. If someone can find me a similar spec, same size and weight with full version of windows 7, let me know cos I can't see any sonys under a grand! Btw who uses optical drives in 2010?! USB/sdhc = real portability

I feel the same way, I have a macbook, I bought because it is a powerful, relatively light, 13 inch laptop, same way I bought an iphone, I wanted a ipod touch and a new phone

I hate stupid hipster kids that buy stuff because "it's Apple"
#9
I suggest you all hold off. Read Engadget alot of people are reporting problems with the screen. Until a fix is out hold off.
#10
The whole lightness issue is a non starter. Are you some sort of weakling that cannot carry a thin 13 inch laptop?

In any case you need a sleeve and a bag to go with it so what is the benefit?
#11
For a start my camera bag wont hold a 15 in laptop and when it's full of lenses, chargers my dslr plus other accessories the last thing I want is a 7 lb laptop in it while I'm lugging it around airports and hot countries. Ok?

Well, when Aperture is out for windows and there is a 13in that can handle it, maybe I will
#15
I would go for 3G IPad if we are talking just about weight and battery life.

So you save an extra pound or so WOW.

Stick with a 13 inch.

You do realise all that does is showcase how heavy Flash is and backs up exactly why Apple are trying to do without?

is it because apple and adobe fell out

Voted hot for the price. Although I don't know who would pay that much for that spec. Apple really have an iron grip on their fanboys.
#20
I'm not sure I understand why people have a negative attitude to Apple, is it because of the cool image?

I used to use Apple Macs at Uni before Windows came along, they were the easiest, most intuitive and beautifully designed pieces of kit. I'm not sure how much this has changed but Apple are now so popular and I can only think the majority of people now understand what we did years ago.

Again apple produce an overpriced product. Nearly 800 for something with an 11" screen. Expensive bit of kit for web browsing. With the screen size stuff like video and picture editing is out the question. Seems to be screen issues as well from reading user reviews. Only good thing is the ssd and weight.

Overpriced so cold

Got one running CS5 and Final Cut Express. No worries - it's rapid due to the SSD Card, so forget about the CPU speed.
Great price, voted hot OP.

Idiot.

I do think this is overpriced though, I'm using a new Macbook Pro 17" and I love it to bits. £850 for this? Rather expensive.
Hot though because it is the cheapest deal on one of these, which is the point of this site.

The cost of this stuff is the only thing that puts me off, so, straw poll, out of this, a Mac Book, a Mac Book Pro 13 or 15, which would you get?

If you need an optical drive and aren't a Pro Apps (Aperture, FC, Logic) user, then standard MacBook. If you want something with some grunt for games, 13" MBP is fine (runs L4D at full res, turn the shadows down). 15" is overkill in my opinion, yet still a great piece of kit.
I run Final Cut and CS5 on this with a 27" LED Cinema - it's quick as, plus super portable.

The 13" Air is faster and the 11" Air about 25% slower than the 13" Macbook Pro according to the review linked below.

If you want a Mac then other than the Mac Mini this deal is currently the cheapest Mac you can get and will perform more than adequately for most tasks. It would only be once you start getting into high performance gaming or video encoding you would start to find it lacking:

I'm honestly suprised an apple deal has managed to get some heat at all on this site, as its mainly full of jealous apple haters.

hot.
I paid 800 quid for a orange vaio P (thats 2nd gen) and never regret. It looks funny when on a train journey, the business guy opposite to me can hardly place his 17' hp on the table and I can just hold mine handy like a psp.
Some people never understand portability.

Use a rope you can tie a 20kg core i7 desktop system with 24' full hd screen on your back. Is it better than a 'overpriced small laptop'? :p
#32
I have one, using it now, very happy with it. Paid £729 via the HE store. It may look underpowered on paper but in practice its a really nice laptop and runs OS X and Windows 7 awesomely well. The SSD makes it feel seriousley quick, and the graphics are very good for something of this size too. Size, portability, design and keyboard are best in class its a delight to use. Other interesting bit of info, the 11.6" display runs at 1366 x 768, higher than the 13" MacBook/ MBP so ignore any comments that suggest its too small! I'm now after an iPad so I have the complete set of Apple mobile devices :)

Performance isn't the issue, it's the 11" screen

Takes one to know one

Shows what a sad person you are if you have to get personal

One thing people are not and that's jealous of apple ROFL

If you want your life to be dictated to by apple as to what you can and can't do on a device then that's fine and if you wish to pay over the odds for an item that is your choice

Please explain what the issue with the 11" screen is?

As I said the resolution is 1366 x 768, that's higher than a 13" MacBook (1280 x 800) and on a par with all the mass market 1366 x 768 15.6" laptops.

Thanks for your help, I was little disappointed to miss out on the Dell laptop deal the other day, but perhaps there was a reason why I I didn't go for it. Essentially, I have a Windows laptop for work and maybe I need a change. The 13" Mac Pro might well be the option I go for.
#37
i bought last years 13" macbook pro and 21.5" imac for my 18th and they are amazing, i dont like windows because its not user friendly, very clunky software and some laptops are oor build quality, if you disagree with me then name some manufacturers that have made unibody designs from metal and watched them sell like hot cakes without advertising. kthxbai.
#38
Hate the fact that apples are so much more expensive than pcs with similar specs.

Was an apple sceptic until I got the Samsung Omnia instead of the iphone and found the Omnia so bad, I bought an iphone even though I had about 3 1/2 months left of my Omnia contract left (it was that awful and the iphone is that good)

Now I am converted, I am undecided between buying a cheap laptop for around £350 or getting a mac within a £1000 spend. The main draw apple wise is that I heard somewhere that they don't get viruses, trojans and the like. Is that true. If so, I think I'll have to swallow hard and put up the extra dough for an apple.
