Sky TV for £32 for a year, are they getting desperate?

I'm no sky tv fan but my house suffers from poor tv reception so I've been looking at freesat, you view, etc. Having previously owned a Humax box I'd like to go freesat and get a Humax box bit these are around £160 for a decent box.

The basic sky deal is £240 but with £106 TCB and the £100 amazon voucher gives me set for a year for £32!

Yes there are Android boxes galore but I need a recordable box as the misses can't cope with kodi!

So what do people think?

Yes did see that after posting but people seemed to be blathering on about the laptop specs. I'm more interested in the package for effectively £32 and invited the communities thoughts.

Yes it isn't as clear as I thought tbh, I read it yesterday and thought top comment was posted by op. I wouldn't touch sky with a proverbial barge pole personally no matter what they offered

Thanks OP. I guess that the key point for you is the recording aspect. In case you are not aware as and when you leave Sky the recording facility ceases to work and all recorded programmes are lost.

Whereas some alternatives eg the BT YouView+ boxes (if you can get good Freeview reception eg with a new aerial and signal booster) the free box will retain its recording functionality even after you leave the paid service.

I got the original bundle entirely free last year. That deal ends on November. Anybody paying full price is just daft.

Hardly. The basic Sky package, with new Sky+HD box installed, is usually free for a year if you do it right.

I took the plunge a few weeks ago and cancelled my Sky TV. They offered me 25% off to stay initially but I stood my ground. After a week I logged in to my account and there was a 50% off link. I got all Sky sports channels ( I get BT sport free), multiscreen, HD pack, the variety bundle and box sets for £42 a month for 12 months. Daresay this is not the cheapest someone has got it but just shows what you can do with fairly little effort.

if you waited probably a couple of weeks they offer you 60% plus 75 bill credit, month to month.... so I've just been offered 2months free, cancel available with 31 days notice so next month start the cancellation, and had free full TV pack with HD for 2months. by then virgin should have pulled there finger out and installed my cables (standard broadband is crap where I am) where they've already thrown me in a extra HD box plus 5 a month discount for the delay!

it was a deal via moneysavingexpert. This is pretty much the best deal you can get now. I think they also have a refer a friend deal running offering £125 each. Find a friend willing to give you their portion of the sign up bonus and you can get the original bundle free.

Seems to be a really good deal to me. I was with Sky for just over two years & anytime I had any problems they sorted it quickly with a small refund as well. With BT it was the opposite, it's my fault, no part refund & it will be fixed within a month or more. Also you can get good deal every year once you ask to cancel it.

£32 for the first year with them coming out & installing a dish. Can't beat it, hot.

My 12 month discount offer expired last month, I was offered 35% off over the phone, I told them to cancel giving 30 days notice. Two weeks later (today), I have checked my online account and it is showing a 60% discount offer. I tried the online chat to get more discount, they offered me £30 bill credit. I would have been happy with 50% off, so I accepted their offer.

Full HD sky package, boxsets, HD Sports (no movies) for £29 per month (less the £30 bill credit), makes it £26.50 per month. A lot cheaper than the £71.50 per month they wanted.

If you do not get the discount you want over the phone, then just give them the 30 days notice, you can always stop this cancellation before the 30 day period ends.

Please.. These boxes are flakey, laggy, not smooth, unreliable.... I don't care about the illegality of them, they're just crap.

Speak for yourself.

I recommend buying the box and doing all the legwork yourself that way it works pretty much perfectly all the time.

I thought this would go cold and I'm not going g to main about. The deal is for NEW customers not retention deals or pushing you granny down the stairs so you can piggy back on her deal. The sky boxes might be pants but they are under warranty for the term of the contract. So for a years free sat I think it's ok

Surely you cant have the cash-back and the voucher?! Talk Talk wouldn't allow this so surely it would be the same for most?

It generally warns if you can't have both when using TCB. Doesn't saying anything about not allowing it
