Wish they were reducing the existing 3G handsets like they are in the US!

iphones are ridiclious prices
#3
Don't understand why this is being voted cold? its the best price you can get it for?..it might be expensive still but a lot of people will still be buying one including myself and £45 is a huge saving!

Voted HOT.

Can I get £45 of the 16GB model? £440 is too much but I would pay £395
#5
£538? where is it offered at £538?
#6

You can read all the PAYG 02 Tarrifs here:

I can't see it on the carphone warehouse website to order. You can only "register an interest".

Where is it pls?

I'd like one on a 24 month contract.
#9
you'd be better off buying an ipod touch and then getting a free phone with more features from your existing contract provider.

Because it doesn't matter if it's the cheapest available, if it doesn't represent good value then it is not a 'Hot Deal'! If I posted a deal for a loaf of bread that was £10 reduced from £100 I would still expect it to go cold!

It doesn't help that this item is a brand new technology and new techs typically plummet in price after a few months.
#13
Youd have to be mad to pay that much, COLD
#14
Its hardly an updated specification either! Very poor show from Apple and vastly overpriced. I'll stick to a decent spec'd Windows Mobile phone. I am with Gareth on this one.
#15
Don't understand why anyone would want to buy one for that much. Why not just get a contract and get the iphone a lot cheaper!! Plus they're a bit useless without unlimited data.
#16
some idiots are more susceptible to marketing ploys than others...

Yeah the whole point of the iPhone is the internet, as an actual phone it's rubbish.

Yeah, but you will still have to pay a monthly contract or top up of some kind, so would probably still represent a saving...
#23
If people were not so stupid to pay these inflated apple/release prices then they would be forced to give the phones away for nothing!!!

Because they're fantastic!! Remember people who got the iphone 3G when it came out on release day (i.e. ME!), are bound to a contract of at least 18 months...so we cant upgrade to Iphone 3GS until January, at which point in another 6 months time the next Iphone would be out, but you'd still be left with a 12 month contract and the circle continues!

Forgot to mention, you get unlimited data and wifi access on O2 for 12 months when you buy the PAYG iphone

This is the pay as you go price of the iphone, if you know of any company offering phones for free on pay as you go let us all know, you'll have a scorching deal there!!

I do want an iphone but quite happy to wait until it comes out on Orange (Rumoured later this year) , by them there will be more iPhone competitors and more than likey yet another iPhone revision. Its seems that the early adopters are not really being treated fairly and will end up with outdated versions with no options to upgrade sooner to the latest version.

Do nokia owners get discounts when they upgrade?
When you buy an iphone you know they are going to bring out an updated version in 12 months time, it really cant come as a suprise i dont see what the moaning is about, what a precious lot they are.

If you run the numbers, and I have, the cheapest 32GB iPhone over 18 months is £803.07, 100 minutes and 75 texts. Compare to the vodaphone N97 (~£680) and HTC magic (£630) [600minutes £35PCM].

So chosing the PAYG iPhone leaves £14.73 per month over 18 months for credit (02) or £5.11 per month for 18 months compared to vodaphone £35pcm.

Yes, more expensive by £200 on contract, but comparable PAYG if you use £5.11 or less PCM.

02 are offerin upgrades to 3GS for around £200 accoring to the press release for existing owners. eBay the old one.

N97 and HTC magic offline are £450, so not that different, if you unlock the iPhone.

ordering one from the states without taking a contract - might be the best option

If you read that back does it make sense?

It's a good deal to the many people that are looking to buy an iPhone. I'm not the biggest apple fan but I have to concede that the new iPhone is one fantastic piece of kit.
#35
All the mobile phone companys are just screwing us!

They never seem to bring out something that has got it all, so they can milk us for every penny we have.

Something Apple have really taken to heart. Never quite upgrading the iPhone with all the features people want, but in smaller increments so they can make more money!

I'm on contract with the Iphone 3G (£35 a month & paid £150ish for the Handset) and started it around August / September time.
What's the best way to get an Iphone 3GS in my case ?

The only way right now is to sell the old on one eBay and get a PAYG. Else wait until you are eligable to pay the extra for the upgrade in August.

Not possible. Can get one from europe though. Expect to part with £7-800 for the 32GB.

can anyone advise what the difference would be in add-ons & functionality between the followng options (not including mins/txts)

pay monthly 32GB £35/month 18months = total cost of £890

PAYG 32GB + £20 Simplicity (inc free internet) over 18months = total cost of £898

so the PAYG option with simplicity is £8 more but you arent locked into a contract and can terminate or switch to whatever you choose. obvbiously you wont get free access to the "cloud" wifi spots, but is there anything else id be missing out on?

pay monthly £35/month = free net + 600mins & 500 txts
simplicity £20/month = free net + 600mins & 1200 txts

discuss :)
