and increased durability and battery life.

This may mean older models come down in price to clear stocks.

Nice, thanks for the heads up!

But where is the video iPod fullscreen amazing update?? ;)

Delightful news whenI've just bought my first - 60gb big one, and a shuffle!
[admin]#4
If you've just bought it you can either return or give them a ring and they will adjust the price to the new price if it's gone down.

You're flying the wrong way magicplastic...going the other way you lose a day so only 24 hours ;)

I was hoping to see a bigger screened Ipod video as well. I think the old nano looks better but the aluminium case seems like a good idea for durability.

Well just bought an 80gb New ipod for £235

Nothing like an impulse buy!!

Thanks to those who posted the apple discount vouchers, worked a treat.

Thank you - does that apply only with Apple, or other companies - i got one from Ebuyer, and the other from Amazon?
[admin]#9
Both eBuyer and Amazon will have a returns policy, I'm not sure if they will adjust the price for you or not. It's worth calling up as a return and see what they do.

They might lower prices to adjust, but maybe not. But if your ipod is still in very good condition, I say give refund or exchange a try, as the new ones have brighter screens, look cooler, and have longer battery life.

Also, for those in education... one note. As of now, the 2GB Nano is showing up as £99.01 in the education store, and £99.00 in the normal store!! So in fact, you're paying 1p more in the Education store  They must think students are dumb!

Anyways, I'm sure its an error, and I've emailed my boss to fix the error ASAP. The education discount should be about 8% when they get it fixed.

From a personal point of view, the Nanos seems a good deal, the 80GB Video Ipod quite a good bargain as well, but stay clear of the Shuffle, as for that price you'll find much better players. Unless you want something as small as a stamp

It looks like the nano has been updated with a new 'Sleek anodized aluminum' case.
New rounded sides - it looks like a slimmer version of the iconic Mini Ipod. I guess it will be more resilient to scratches than the original plastic nano.

Is the nano 8gb a new version?
#12
Looks like the apple refurb shop has nothing for sale at the moment. Maybe a big price drop is in the pipeline. I think the original nano
4gb was up for a £113 earlier this week.

Let me sort this mess out about price drops.

Apple will not sell the old Nanos brand new for a reduced price. If any nanos come through the refurb store, it will be in used condition.

They tend to keep the brand new old nanos for their service centre. So if someone sends in a busted nano, they can send out a brand new one, thus making the customer happy and having to spend less time fixing.

Many other 3rd party retailers will still sell the old nano. Just last week, I saw stores still selling the mini, at a greatly discounted price.

To be fair, the new ones are a big improvement over the old ones, in terms of different casing (more scratch resistant), longer battery life (24 claimed as opposed to 15 before), and I think there are some minor software adjustments as well.
[admin]#14
boonkoh do you work for Apple? Or am I misreading the "boss" bit above?

Yes I don't think we will see big reductions in the store itself but extra stock will probably filter through into the clearance eventually. The reductions in other merchants will happen but it takes a while, it's never overnight.

Does anyone know if i can get the education discount instore?

Yup! I work for Apple. Specifically, for their education sales department. However, I'm not that senior, so I don't dictate policy or such in the company.

Excellent! We expect to get all the inside scoop then.

If you want to keep your job, just helping out on any Apple queries would be useful too :P

Apple are so silly at times. They have turned the very cool, very sexy looking nano into the quite ugly and undesirable mini clone.

ipod nano gone into ipod mini shell :)
[admin]#20
I would suppose the scratching issues and lawsuits had some part to play in the decision to switch back to the aluminum shell.

From paragraph 3 ....... where can we get this 'greatly discounted price' - I assume/hope it is a 40% saving or more!!
