New Ipod range is now available to buy, 8gb and 16gb Nanos in a chromatic array of colours.

Also the Ipod Classic has been upped to 120GB and the old fat version has been dropped

the nano...
Meet a musical Genius.

With just a few clicks, the new Genius feature finds the songs on your iPod nano that go great together and makes a Genius Playlist for you.

Rock and roll over.

Thanks to the built-in accelerometer, you can rotate iPod nano to flip through album art with Cover Flow. Watch movies and TV shows in widescreen. And view photos in either portrait or landscape.

Shake to shuffle.

Just give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library.

Curved ahead of the curve.
iPod nano now comes in nine vibrant colors and a new curved aluminum and glass design. The crisp, bright picture makes watching movies and TV shows amazing.

i second that, altho i'll have to wait to see / feel one in real life before i pass judgement
then i'll probably buy current nice looking nano when the prices drop
#4
Ewww... the new nano looks just like the old one. The reallllly old one!
#5
Shake to shuffle could be a problem when excercising! Unless you can turn it off.
#6
It does look a lot like the previous generation to the current one, and larger than the current one too. Think the shake to shuffle sounds gimicky.
#7
The touch isn't much different but the price has dropped by £30 so that gets some heat from me. Knew the new range was due out in september but wasn't sure when.
#8
iTunes 8 looks awesome though! I've just installed it.
#9
lol this looks like one of them ipod clones.

Why? The firmware is the same as the old versions and it's just as big as the 160gb version but with less battery?
#14
i really want a 32gb touch,is this the cheapest place to get one now or will other retailers be dropping them in price?

I just checked the cached apple site and it is 4 hours less.

Playback time (160GB model)
Music playback time: Up to 40 hours when fully charged
Video playback time: Up to 7 hours when fully charged

But it is now thin as the 80gb classic with 120gb capacity. So that's where the 4 hours have gone.
So it is thinner than the 160gb.

They look like a retro MP3 player rather than a new design.
#21

It'd be quite ironic if those asian companies filed a lawsuit against apple for copying their design haha

iTunes 8? I'm using a Mac and I've done a software update check tonight on my Mac without any iTunes update - mine is version 7.7.1. Is iTunes 8 a Windows update version only? :whistling:

I think that when I see it in person, it will look and feel good in the hand.

I thought the old nano looked **** until I bought one. Someone else liked it a lot too, as they relieved me of the overbearing weight of the device one day, so I was waiting to see what they did.

The new colours are funky. Purple! There are some good photos online now.
The Genius / Pandora / last.fm type functionality will be really handy - if it works.
The price isn't that much better than a year ago ('cos the pound has dropped against the dollar I guess)

Dunno. Will wait a week and mull it over. Nano + Aspire One, or iPod touch + crate of beer?

It's not on the automatic updates yet (i'm on a mac too) although there is a new Quicktime Pro and Front Row update.
You can download itunes 8 here:

If you have a big catalogue of songs it is really good.
Even though it has just been released and the recommendations are new it is bringing together songs that sound excellent next to each other.
After the lengthy initial analysation of the library it is very fast, creating playlists in a second.
I can see myself using this everyday, especially if/when they introduce the feature on the ipods.
I have just over 6000 songs.

Round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round we all go on the merry APPLE merry-go-round.....

Stone bloody cold for me.

I was thinking that! They are probably all laughing now as they only need to make minor adjustments to machines and they already have clone ipods to sell!

The new iPod Classic 120GB is slimmer than the previous 160GB model. The new iPod touch is also slightly slimmer than the previous models.
#32
These are ugly, kind of reminds me of the Ipod Mini.......
#33
I'm torn between the 120GB classic, 32GB Touch or trying to get an 80GB classic cheaper cuz they are old stock now?

Anyone know when there were previous product refreshes if the old stock dropped in price at many retailers?

Anything over 30GB is fine for me. I take it the touch doesn't have GPS built in like the iphone to do satnav?

Thanks,
worto.

Dammit, I bought the daughter a pink 8Gb Nano for her birthday 2 weeks ago. And now the new version is available from the Apple shop cheaper anyway, with Quidco and free laser engraving. How will she live with the shame of having a new shiny out of date iPod?

massmail666
as a rule of thumb, a complete new generation of ipods come out every september, slightly cheaper than the last generation to destroy the second hand market of ipods!

Thanks for the info, wish I'd have known this before hand! Fancy having your birthday right before Apple release their new products, what bad planning that was.

Apple have a really good customer service. You might be able to trade the old nano for the new one as you only bought it two weeks ago or at least get the difference in price back. They do that sometimes with ipods, just not with laptops... lol

You can turn it off. When the screen is off, or the iPods on hold :)
#38
The photo's do not do it justice. Just been in the Apple store in Cambridge where they have had a delivery. The new Nano's are fab, look and feel great. How I walked out without buying one I will never know. But I will be back soon.

One slight dissappointment is that the screen itself is no bigger than on the old Nano. Given the new prices I was half expecting a rash of knock down prices for the old Nano, but I haven't seen any

f***k sake, i was waiting for an ipod bigger than 160gb not smaller, i'm tempted for a yellow nano though, but is there anywhere in the us that ships to the uk, because it seems to be 40 quid cheaper over there?
