I thought I'd post this even though it's not necessarily a bargain, as I get asked a lot by people what the best phone is when comparing their strength and low risk of breaking. And to be honest, it's hard to answer... mainly because they're built to be pretty weak these days which can cost many people with outdoor professions, such as builders and construction workers, quite a lot in regularly replacing their phones. Well thanks to JCB, not any more as this phone has a THREE YEAR MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY.

Mobiles2YourDoor, a site owned by the reputable "Phones4U", have this brand new handset for free on various Vodafone 12 and 18 month contracts with various free gifts. The cheapest of these, after redeemable cashback (spread over the 12 months), is £200 for the year's contract. This is "Vodafone Anytime 40" (12 month) which would cost you £480 for the year, minus the £280 cashback which you will receive. If claiming cashback isn't your thing, then you can choose for automatic cashback (lower money, but less risk) or to receive various free gifts of an XBox 360, Laptop or 32" LCD TV depending on which tarriff you choose. It's worth exploring.

"The JCB Tough Phone is arguably the most durable mobile phone ever made available to the general public. Constructed by one of the worlds most renowned and respected heavy equipment producers, the JCB Tough Phone carries on a strong tradition of robust durability that has been at the heart of JCBs growth for over 60 years. Specifically designed to combat the environment in which it was intended for, the JCB Tough Phone is shock resistant, dust resistant, water resistant, and also drop resistant. This resilient unit also boasts a glare and scratch resistant screen making it perfect for any outdoor enthusiasts or workers who battle against the repetitive situation of replacing their mobile phone all too often. Not content to develop such a well-constructed mobile phone, JCB have also invested in the handsets technology, which contains a dual speaker so that calls and conversations can be heard in high noise environments. Additional to all the above, the JCB Tough Phones promotion activity has included driving over the phone & dropping it into water/cement to prove it truly is one hell of a Tough Phone."

Don't forget that if you do decide to order, QuidCo.com offer an extra £45 in extra cashback which means £45 in your pocket. Don't forget to cancel any insurance that they throw at you as it's usually quite expensive. **It may be worth noting that in coming months this phone may appear on pay as you go, and if that suits you better it may be worth wiating for a while. Certainly one to keep in mind though.**

For more information on the JCB Tough Phone or its 3 years manufacturer's warranty you can visit http://www.jcbphone.co.uk/

Please don't vote this one cold just because you aren't interested as it'll save a lot of people from replacing their phone every couple of months!!

Lol, no... it just interests me, as the site's mobile hunter, to see a phone that won't snap or crack or scratch or break.

Hmm, yeah. I saw that but they don't seem to have a shopping basket/checkout - you have to email or ring a mobile number so it's not too professional.

I saw it £175 SIM FREE on another site but they weren't expecting any until February...

Isnt't it cheaper to just buy a "cheap" phone eg £10 touch buy a case then when it breaks just replace - would you go through one a month?....

I'm assuming it's the security side duckmagic is referring to - no one wants the months of hassle of having your card details misused - that site does have a 'knocked up in five minutes' look to it - the landline is listed with Yell but not BT and there is a further business listing on the web where the e-mail address is given as [email protected]">[email protected] ... again it doesn't inspire confidence.

That is because anything under about £3,000 with a JCB label on it, is not made by JCB and is only a licensing deal.

I remembered Duck had posted this lil' fella a while back & thought I'd just point out that you can now pick this up from Play for £99.99 on Vodaphone HERE or £169.99 sim free/unlocked HERE.....

(I've not price compared so it may be cheaper elsewhere...just happened to spot a Play sale ad for it)

Thanks for the post. looks a pretty good deal to me - certainly haven't seen this phone at other places at all never mind cheaper. My sister was saying her phone isn't working great at the moment, given her phones are almost always killed by drowning them or banging them I'm thinking this might be the phone for her!

Just figured as the weather is (generally) improving there might be a bit more interest in a rugged, outdoorsy phone as people wander off into the 'wilds'.....

I did think it'd be popular with builders and other people who work outside and might be liable to dropping their phone a lot.

If I remember correctly, there was a video somewhere of them driving over one of these in a 4x4 and it was unscathed.

A £200 phone on a building site will get nicked. A £10 jobbie will be left alone and won't come to much grief either.

This is a piece of branded bollox that is probably the most "gay" item since Dr. Martens, Levis and crew cuts got together :p

In truth I kinda agreed with Packard (a few posts above) that builders, etc at the bottom end will be more inclined to buy disposables & that surveyors, architects, etc that swan about on & off sites will probably be doing so with Blackberrys or the like.
Given the claims about it's hardiness I reckon it stands a better chance of selling to outdoors types from climbers to off-roaders.....
