If you have an existing valid subscription to Norton Internet Security or Norton Anti Virus (any version), you can now upgrade to the new 2010 versions for free.

This also applies to the half price deals for NIS 2009 posted elsewhere. Buy 2009 and upgrade to 2010 free!

You need to go to the main Symantec web site, click support, then Norton Update Center and either let the automatic product scanner check your product or click the link for "Choose My Product Manually" to select the upgrade package.

If you've encountered problems in the past with Norton slowing your computer to a crawl, this has been resolved and it's no longer cpu or memory intensive. In addition, the new version debuts a new kind of virus detector that doesn't just rely on virus signatures to detect suspect files.

If you have a current subscription to NIS or NAV then this upgrade is a must!

Good deal, will let me see if I'm going to stay with norton or move to someone else when my subscription expires.
I have looked on the rota, but despite me never having used Norton,
I see it my turn to say "Norton is crap"
Well that is my turn over for at least 200,000 turns
Norton was indeed crap, but they really seem to have completely revamped the product and improved it beyond all recognition. It runs on the lowliest of my PCs now with no problems.

Second that, I did use norton years ago and left because it was bloatware. However I went back for my 2009 anti-virus having heard it had been on a diet and it's been smooth sailing. I don't like their browser plugins but they can be disabled.
Have to say that I've used the old Nortons (which were indeed appalling) and had a brief encounter with the new one.
Perhaps it's less intensive and doesn't slow your computer down, but it's still ridiculously instrusive. Every 2 minutes while I was browsing it was stopping me from going on random websites (some of which were pages on here). It's just so annoying. Norton still has a long long way to go in my book. Especially when you can get other AV programs so cheap (I'm not talking about the free ones).
Hot free upgrade to 2010, regardless if some are Norton haters this is a good deal
I've just had another call to my business to go out tomorrow morning and uninstall Norton from a clogged up computer, and thats all I'm going to say...
Buy licence on Ebay (2 year for 3 computers) I bought less than 9 quid.
I must agree every version before 2009 was crap! 2009 is working perfect and 2010 hope as well!
avast and comodo what are free is better then nortons, nortons will muck up your pc, and i wouldnt take a chance on the newer one,if the 2009 is anythink to go by
i just did the free upgrade but it was in german!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?:?

anyone been able to download in english?
Thank you very much for posting this - ignore the morons voting cold.
Very strange I have the same issue (german) download trial version (english) and it will update to 2010. But why is it free upgrade? If you want to do it officialy you have to pay money! Is there any promotion now?

In 2010 you have statistics about using processor, so you can view it as a graph! Once again, Norton 2009 and 2010 are brand new products written from scratch, I hated Norton like you but now is something different give a try and download Norton 90 days trial!
i used norton for years but it got such a resource hogger as the years went on so stopped using it in 2006. the 2009 couldn't be further away from the old nortons. completely different product. i also have it running on an old 1 ghz pentium 3 with 512 ram and you can't even tell it's on. if you're having problems with a computer that runs nis 2009, its not the norton that's the problem.

anyway, this free update they're offering from 2009 to 2010. i don't know what this promotion is but when you download the update you can immediately see it's in german, with no way of changing it to english. i haven't got a clue what's going on.

what when every one who is downloading it has now got a germen nortons, whos the moron now, they cant even get the download right, if everyone runs sheids up to see how good there firewall is to see if it passes?
On behalf of the NICB I would like to express my disapproval of this product.

May it's bloat forever float in the depths of the porcelain throne.

I updated and works like a charm, voting HOT:thumbsup:
