This is the new Popcorn Hour C-200 from Syabas. It features a number of improvements over the fantastic and highly successful A-100/A-110 model, including the ability to fit in a blu ray drive, a new graphic chip, significantly more processing power and RAM which should result in applications to run faster and may also improve some aspects of video playback (e.g. supported types of files), 2 SATA trays instead of one, a wireless remote, an LCD screen, etc.

Please note, this product has just been released and this is a pre order price. If you don't want to wait, I believe Ripcaster claims to have some in stock for £299.99 (probably best to call them to check though). If you want to order direct from the manufacturer, I think it will cost you just under £260 ($300 for the device + $50 delivery to UK + $61 import duty to the UK @ 17.5% = $411.25 / c. 1.60 USD / GBP exchange rate) and you will most likely be subject to some delays as well + you will not benefit from the same legal protections than if you buy from a UK retailer.

Note: 4% Quidco / Topcashback should be available on this too. The 10% discount code "jolly" does not appear to work though.

How does this compare with my TVIX M7000-A with regards to playback & quality - anyone?

I know its a hell of a lot uglier

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but do these things have web browsers built in - i.e. could I use it to get BBC IPlayer and YouTube videos on my telly?

you want a PS3 for that :-)

Youtube access works very well on my A-110 and is supported on this version too. I believe BBC I-player support is technically possible but not available at least as of yet. AFAIK, there is no web browser on this either (not really the purpose of the device).

AFAIK, the C-200 is the most advanced dedicated network media player available on the market. The M7000 uses the old generation of Sigma video chipset (same as those found in the A-110 and the WDTV), featuring much less processing power. It seems to be also more expensive than the C-200.

Thanks for the responses.
PS3 seems a bit overkill to me - I don't really have time to play many games.
Was thinking about a Wii though - a bt cheaper and I think that lets you have IPlayer.

ps3 has a blu ray drive built in!

buy one, sell the games and see what the cost is then

wii doesnt do HD or let you watch blu rays

I set up iPlayer on a Wii and it was not worth the effort. The bit rate is much lower to cope with the wii's weaker processor and the picture quality is distinctly ropey.

I had been using my PS3 for streaming for a while before I bought the A-110. The latter is infinitely better and much more stable to watch HD movies. The C-200 should be even better.

That's probably because it's a pre-order. Could mean that when this comes in stock it'll be available for under £200!

When Scan were the first UK place to list it at £279.98, I thought I'd have to fork out at least £250. I was considering just settling for an A110 as £100 is a lot to spend on the extra features, but they're definitely worth shelling out £50 for.

Seems like a load of garb to me!

I placed an order for this last month and they said that stock was due on the 20th of this month. They then sent an email on the 18th stating that the due date is now 15th of Dec! At this rate by the time they have it in stock it will be cheaper to get it elsewhere!

Anyway I have cancelled my preorder and got a refund (they had taken money from my card as I used google checkout).

Just a heads up for anyone thinking to order...

I Pre-ordered mine back in Sept and was told I was on the list to get mine then.. I went down to their shop front in Edinburgh and paid £150 to reserve this guy. Price then was £220 They did not phone or email and I was always chasing them up. Went in on 15th Dec and was told they would be in on Friday.. Then they dropped the bombshell that will be £309.. after arguing for ages I was told its that or nothing.. This has to be the worst company I have ever dealt with never shop with them again....
