For anyone who already has a sky+ box and is upgrading to HD - u dont need an engineer! When I got upgraded few weeks back, engineer just unplugged one box and plugged in new box!

Any way to get HD box free without HD subscription?

see the website - you can get them but you have to pay for the box if you dont take it in HD, they stopped making the + boxes and only make the HD+ ones, so any sky+ deal you get now you get the HD box, at the prices they have though you might as well just take the subscription will cost less over a year!!, prices for the boxes without HD follow:

Add a Sky+ box & Multiroom
Sky+ box £49
Standard set-up £30
Sky Multiroom £10 pm
One-off cost: £79
Monthly cost: £10

or just the box
Upgrade to a Sky+ box
Sky+ box £99
Standard set-up £60
One-off cost: £159
Monthly cost: £0

I have had my sky+ box for a number of years now, still working fine but some day im sure wil fail to work and result in me needing to replace or call them out which is expensive.Does the hd box do the same the sky+ can you record on it?
Also i am paying 49 per month and i dont get any sport but i think everything else, would i be say 59 per month to get this?as it says 10 per month for the hd box.
Maybe cause i have had my package and sky+ for so long now maybe you can get this hd on a better package or same as what i have,i have multi room already but lets just say box boxes are in same room, the way i wanted it set up.
So if i went for this its the means of taking out my sky+ box and putting this in,nothing else to do?

12 months would be idea too as i plan on moving overseas so any longer i would not want.

HD box replaces the old sky+ boxes - with or without the HD bit enabled. Does all the same as Sky+ boxes and you also get all the new menu features and stuff which are a vast improvement and also offeres a bigger hard drive.

All thats needs doing is a swap of the boxes and sky will probably send you a new viewing card which has HD enables. It is a 12 month subscription you have to agree too

HD deals have defo improved but FYI

I recently rang up sky with the view of leaving and cancelling my subscription which is only the variety package, after getting put through to the cancellation department I was given a surprising option.

For the current deal I was on they gave me 6 months half price so instead of £23 a month it was £11.50 making a saving of £69 which isn’t to be sniffed at. So I stayed a loyal sky customer and when it expires then HD it is......

Oh I was given the same option 12 months ago and I didn’t take it, so I told my dad and brother in law both rang up and got the 6 month half price deal. I think almost everyone unless your already on a deal can get it but they wont tell you unless you maybe decide to leave, then when it comes to the crunch if they don’t offer it then you don’t actually have to go just try it on....... Not that I did of course
course

Didnt mean to hijack this deal and the clear explantion on the options, good job :)

NOt too bad, but 10pounds/month is still higher than virgin.
#12
Are SKY really offering a free HD box as an upgrade for existing customers? (provided you take out the £10 a month for HD?).

works out a lot less though if you have sky sports or movies though - main thing I will be using it for is sports on sky sports so it was a perfect deal for me

OP you missed one small but important point.....

This deal is for households getting their FIRST HD box. If like me you have a SKY+ and an HD box already, you are screwed.
#16
How do you select "Self set-up" online?

I can only select a pack with the £30 setup fee?

They are offering new customers option 3 with free instalation. I phoned sky and said i want option 3 but with free instalation. told me they couldn't do it. I then asked to be put through to the disconnection team and told them it wasn't fair that they were not giving me free instalation like they were new customers and because of this i wanted to leave.

After a few minutes of discussion they offered me Free HD box, £15 installation and they would move my sky + box into my multiroom room (to replace my normal box)

Always threaten to leave. They never call your bluff.

but really why would you need so many boxes, for most households 2 boxes is more than enough. if you want more go to ebay, I picked up my hd for 49 6 months ago

going to get the self install i reckon, that way i'll have a back up box

Yep, I have SKY HD with HD subscription, multiroom and a SKY+ box . They want £199 for the HD box and another £10pm HD subscription.

Come on freesat, give us a decent alternative, please!

Yep thats how they tried to justify it with me. told them wasn't having any of it and i was leaving. thats when they came up with £15 instalation.
#25
So if you have already taken advantage of the 6 month offer of half price off your current package (like I have) then you can't call and get this deal?
#26
I have sky+ and multiroom standard.

I called to upgrade yesterday, they said they couldn't do it on self install.

I think this is due to them presuming you want the sky+ box inplace of the multiroom, ie, 1 more cable would have to be fed to the second box (My multi room box is bog standard with only 1 cable)

I said i wasnt bothered.

But they said no.

May have to go through the cancellation route.
#27
what is in the HD pack?
#28
I have Sky HD, 2 years now so out of 12 month contract which is what you will be agreeing to with this offer but you can't do anything about that. Last Summer I cancelled everything and they didn't try to get me to stay, really busy signing up new HD customers I suppose.

The after about four or five weeks I started receiving offers through the post, half price for 12 months but I ignored them and then they phoned me and asked why I hadn't taken an offer. I told them that I didn't want to be involved with another 12 month contract so they gave me half price on a rolling 30 day contract. I didn't bother with the HD this time so I get the regular stuff and sports for £18 a month and I still think I'm being mugged.

It allowas you to waych the HD channels. no HD pack, then you just get the normal channels you do with sky +
#30

That is more the case that virgin media customers WONT pay extra for it. If they could charge extra they would.
#32
if you upgrade to sky hd multiroom do you get hd in more than one room?
#33
I've been with Sky for over 10 years, full package £50 x 12 = 600 x 10 years... £6000

they should be given it for free ffs that's why I don't bother with the HD
#34
From what I gathered, you need to pay for Multiroom and for an extra HD sub (ie you need two HD subs for two SkyHD boxes)... Ridiculous imo.

depends on your box, that could be another £10;-)

as a virgin customer you get less channels than Sky, Virgin is the middleman for sky, no way would sky be more expensive:)

if its not a sky+ box you have now it wont work, you need a duel lnb for starters so check that first
