NEW Sony Xperia Z2 - EE Store - PAYG £429.99

Thisay have been posted but at a slightly different price.
ee offer the Z2 at £429.99 to ee PAYG customers who are already with ee.
This is the cheapest I can find this phone anywhere.
Not sure if it's easy to unlock this handset but of your on ee and buy your phone's off contract seems like a great deal. Amazon and every other retailer seem to sell the Z2 between £500 to £550 !!! which is too much in my opinion. Hope someone finds use of this deal.

sorry for typos. This HTC one is not the best for auto correction ;)

I also should have mentioned if you are not a PAYG customer you can buy it from ee for £449
#3

Ill be honest, after buying the Z2 via EE PAYG, its not the best of phones....

But, the deal is HOT... as one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest around.

Why do you say that? What don't you like about it? I'm planning on getting one so I would like some advice.

Its an excellent phone, I have the Z1 and its brilliant, especially for the camera. The camera is phenomenal, but personally for me the Z2 is kind of like buying the iPhone 4S over the 4, its just not that different in terms of looks. I must warn you though, that the wifi strength on the z1 is terrible, The xperia Z and z2 are 100% better on wireless performance for sure! After owning the Z then purchasing the Z1, You can clearly tell the difference all round!

Heat given! Best phone I've owned so far :) camera is outstanding and performance is amazing! I would Highley recommend this phone :D
#8
Agree that the Z1 to the Z2 is not a major difference but I upgraded from a Galaxy S3 and the Z2 is 100x better!
#9
Thanks for advice guys much appreciated.

I bought a Z1 around 6 months ago for £500 and now it's worth £200. Apart from it being waterproof I think it's a load of crap considering how fast they release these things. Get a nexus 5 or oneplusone for less than £300 new... I doubt the Z2 would be much better tbh...
#11
I had a nexus 5 and got sick of it because of its camera, audio output and battery life. Switched to a z2 and love it. Best camera, audio and battery life that lasts at least 2 days of heavy use with all radios switched on and not to forget that it's water proof.
#12
And good luck finding a one plus one as aparantly every new tech company these days is trying to look cool by the bloody invite only sales.
#13
great price and voted hot, I got mine from 3 for 50 quid more.

I remember reading somewhere that EE Z2 has an locked bootloader meaning you can't as yet unlock it to install custom ROMs (this is separate from network unlock which I believe you can buy from ebay for 20 odd quid). It won't make a difference for most people but for those that want to tinker with ROMs, it may be worth confirming that the bootloader is unlockable. My Z2 (from 3) is unlockable but I have not found a reason to do it as yet,

The Z1 must have been a defective unit or maybe my Xperia Z was because it had the worst Wi-Fi range on it I've ever seen on a mobile device. A frequent issue from when I researched it.

Don't Sony provide a bootlocking tool for free on their website? They apparently have a great standing with the developer community on XDA?

Reviews here for anyone considering this. Great battery life and performance are the highlights. Although the overheating issue when recording 4K for more than 8 minutes is a bit of a letdown as well as using the phone outdoors in bright sunlight.

GSM arena are a pro samsung website and they make sure that they exaggerate even the tiniest issues in every other competing flagship device. Using the phone in sunlight is absolutely not an issue with this phone, I agree with the 4K though but the only other phone capable of 4K video is the S5 and even that cant make a video more than 5 minutes which is a limit set by Samsung. Z2 has no such limit and the heating issue is due to the processor's capabilities which are stretched by 4K resolution.

Can't say I find them to be too much pro-samsung and I loathe them but yeah they do make a mountain out of any defect which they are entitled to doing seeing that the market has peaked and the standards are so high now. I'll post some videos of the phone being used in sunlight if I find any. The 4K thing isn't much of an issue for me. Dunno who makes 8 minute videos but not me and yeah I imagine the 801 snapdragon is going to be under pressure doing 4K. Slightly disappointed that the 805 didn't make it because the 808 and 810 will be next years flagships. Then again processing power isn't that important any more now.

The video shows the Z2 in sunlight and how it performs. Not as good as the S5 but then its not as bad as the earlier models in the Z line up.

Download swiftkey keyboard excellent keyboard only recently became free.

Worst thing about this handset is the screen shocking outside now replaced mine with the s5 and so glad I did wait for the z3 in September
#23
z2 isn't anything special.sold mine after two week.went back to my g2 as battery life and screen better and considering both have a 5.2 inch screen the g2 is a lot more compact.performance wise the g2 matches the z2.I think phones have went backwoods this year.last years snapdragon 800 phones match this years and are a lot cheaper
#24
Seems a lot for a phone!
#25
WOW, I was really considering this phone but there seems a general negative vibe towards it. Far more interested in users opinions than reviews.

I think my trusty galaxy note 2 will have to soldier on for a bit more and wait and see what the Z3, Note 4, galaxy prime/f , iphone 6 has to offer! (only interested in the iphone 6 if they do a 5.5" mind!)
#26
Recently got the z2. Very pleased with it. Battery life is great (I'm on it a lot), camera is brilliant, and front speakers are great too. Everything I wanted in a phone.
#27
Pretty terrible phone in all honesty. Especially where the screen is concerned.

Again it's all marketing hype from Sony for a very average smartphone.
#28
Personally I thought the front speakers where bobbins you could hardly hear notifications it was light years behind the m8 sound wise even the s5 sounds better than the z2 the sound was superb using the noise cancelling headphones though I do miss them though, but nothing else about the phone did anything for me especially the screen which like I said earlier was atrocious and the mirroring was crap too very hit and miss where the m8 was bang on

I got the Z2 on an upgrade from O2 using my student discount.
After having the Galaxy S3 for 2 years prior, I'm very happy with it. The battery life is incredible, the camera amazing and everything just works nicely.
my one minor niggle is that Facebook videos rarely play, they stop after about 10 seconds. seems to be a common issue, but don't know whether it's the phone of the app.
I would definitely recommend it though.
#31
Thanks for all the comments about the deal. looks like people like this handset. I have a g3 on order but this is 100 cheaper so that's why I was considering it. camera looks to be very good. mostly.

well at least with mine it is, I have to be close to my router to get a good speed/strength. not very close but definitely closer than my iPhone. This is a common problem with Z series, lots of complaints! I think it may have something to do with the waterproofing??? :/ My iPhone 4 doesnt have a problem when put in the same locations, theres actually a video on YouTube comparing the Z, Z1 and Z2 on wifi performance, becomes obvious which is the weakest in terms of signal

Agreed, I too have that same problem. I will be contacting Sony soon because mine has recently been acting up when switching to camera. I thought it may have been due to apps installed or too many running in the background. But it seems to crash and keep trying to focus over and over while recording video for no apparent reason sadly!!

I sold mine after three days. Found it uncomfortable to hold and use. It is overly large for the screen size. Physically it didn't feel any smaller than the note 3 I had. Seems the z2 has a large bezel and the annoying thing, the back and home icons take up screen with a solid black bar at the bottom. The swipe up for google is also shared with some crappy sony features which l also found irritating. On the plus side it had a strong FM tuner which I liked! I liked the screen but agree with others the sound was weak, probably down to waterproofing. The camera was okay but not as quick firing as the iPhone 5s if you want that quick shot. Only has a small led flash although low light pics are decent. I'm not sorry to see it gone to be honest.

Too much hate for sony here so I'm just going to say:
The large bezels are not even that large and if anything they make the phone easier to hold while watching movies or playing games. I actually like em.
Most of your issues with the z2 can be fixed with a simple root you could uninstall all the sony bloatware and hide those buttons or make them smaller. A lot of the latest apps these days automatically hide these button now too.

The only thing I agree with you on is the slightly uncomfortable to hold point.
You mention it has a slow quick shot but failed to mention the camera itself it really really good.
Also if you owned it how can you forget to mention the bloody incredible battery life this thing has.
My system info settings say I have a 3400 mah powered battery!! Yes 3400 baby!!!

Honestly maybe a little biased here but the phone is incredible I highly recommend to anyone.

I hear such a mixed bag about this phone. some love it some hate it. the phone has wasted space but has front facing speakers and is so thin it feels small still. only thing that puts me off is o hear very mixed reviews about camera speed and video audio capture. Anyone with any feedback on this ?

crossposting this here because I wish there was this kind of info available when I was trying to decide which phone to get:

Got this phone on Friday (Vodafone retention deal). A few points:

- Mine came with a un-unlockable bootloader (probably down to Vodafone). This means I cannot use Sony's official bootloader unlock facility, which means I cannot run any custom kernels. I'm usually rooted and running TWRP by day 2 of owning a device, and running custom ROMS by week 4, so for me this is a big deal, especially if I have to live with the phone for 24 months. As this is a deal for a EE device, you may not have this problem, but you won't know until it arrives (to check dial *#*#SERVICE#*#* and check software config)

- The camera overheats. BADLY. You should already be aware of the 4k 10-min recording limit, but I had the same 'phone is too hot, camera shutting down' message after ten minutes of using the camera app (checking settings, snapping stills, generally testing the camera out). I'm not happy with this. I should be able to shoot PHOTOS for as long as I like, and certainly be able to use the camera app for more than 10 mins!

- No wireless charging built in, and £60 for a qi-enabled case. Thankfully there is a magnetic charging port (I don't want to wear out the waterproof flap on the microusb port) but this means you have to buy an extra proprietary cable...

These are the only negative points for me, but it's enough for me to be seriously considering returning the phone. The battery is AMAZING, the display is great, the system is rock solid, the features are actually useful (none of the nonsense gimmicks samsung adds) and the speakers are easily acceptable. If you can live with the above points, £430 is a steal.

Phone history: SPV M600 > HTC HD2 > Galaxy S3 I9300 > Sony Z2 D6503 (possibly soon to be returned)

Is this deal still running?
I asked from their online team and they say they do not have xperia 2 on pay as you go..
