If people think this is underpowered, try a 2 litre Hyundai Trajet. omfg.

Ignore the alleged mpg, it's really dire!!!

Have had 2 zafira's - avoid the 1.6 like the plague.... Expect it to depreciate badly even considering the saving and the drive is dire.

That said it is what it is, 7 seats, rear two big enough for adults on short journey's - more suited as a 5 seater with an extra two full size seats for when the kids want to bring friends home from school

1.6 engine, you could walk faster. Too big a car for that engine a bit like the Corsa with a 1.0 engine.

The zafira A was underpowered by the 1.6, The first 3pot 1.0 corsa however was a blast round town - haven't driven a corsa since and I doubt they've squeezed enough horses out of it to run a modern bloat wagon.

nice 1, probably the new shape zafira must be coming soon that's why its so cheap

Make sure you test drive one before purchase as the 1.6 is soooo underpowered.

We test drove a few and in the end the 2.0 would be the best choice.

100,000 miles isn't a lifetime warranty. Can't believe they can even tag that line to it.
#14
Yes we have the 1.6 and for the wife it is fine. When crusing on the motorway it is also fine. Just sluggish getting to that speed....

The drive is not too bad, we had the Renault Scenic before and it is better than the Renault. My other car is a Honda S2000 and I do not dread having to drive it around when need be!

worth £10k I reckon

Only a lifetime warranty for the first owner. If you sell it the warranty ends. Be careful of not falling into these traps. It's also worth noting whats not covered by it.

Again, the wife has the 1.6 which is fine for her. If you wind up the revs you get better power delivery, but load the car up and it is very slow!

For this price it is very good value. The new one is out soon though.

The wesbite is down!
#22
It is a good price for a people carrier, but the 1.8 petrol engine in the Insignia is way under powered. Can't see how a 1.6 would be any good at pulling 7 people along.

The turning circle on these cars will definitely **** you off, forget about 3 point turns, think 5/6 point turns, lol.
I have the 1.6 on a 55 plate,not very powerful,but what do you want for a 7 seater?
Great for a family that isn't arsed about performance.

I feel your pain! I had one until it died on my soon after purchasing - I've never been so glad to leave a car at a scrap yard! Slow as hell, and the worst drive I've ever known!!

Zafira Lounge thing is being released soon, but was under the impression they weren't discontinuing these? Maybe they struggle to get rid of the 1.6 petrol models when the diesels are far more appealing.

**Edit - it appears they have now changed the name to Zafira Tourer.

Was shopping round for an MPV at the end of 2010 for my other half as we were expecting our third child. The dealer openly admitted that the Zafira would not easily accommodate 3 full size child seats in the middle row so bear this in mind if you have 3 very young children (under 6's) to ferry around. Basic seat boosters for older children are fine however.

In the end we went for the Ford S-Max - far better looking (in our opinion), more thoughtfully designed and a heck of a lot better to drive though unfortunately much more expensive to buy.

Often referred to as the Hyundai Tragic. :D

Factor in about £2000 petrol cost per year (based on 10,000miles). The advertised 38mpg is under ideal conditions and one would be lucky to get 30mpg.

I owned the older 1.8 petrol model and did 100k miles on it. It was up there as one of the best cars I ever owned. Although the power of the 1.8 was fine, if you're looking for something nippy, it's the wrong car but I treated mine like a mini van. There was tons of room in the back with both sets of rear seats down. I had washing machines, two seater settees, electric storage heaters and bags of stones in mine at various points over it's lifetime.

I traded it 7 months ago, when I had 125k on the clock and no major problems. I didn't dealer service it either. Just made sure I did regular oil changes and changed the timing belt, when it was due.

Having all 7 seats up, uses most of the boot space but we only used them on family days out to the zoo and stuff. It would happily seat five adults and two children and the boot was still big enough to fit cool bags full of barbecue stuff but not much else.

It's extremely practical and I would definitely have another one. That might not be everybody's cup of tea but it really depends what you're looking for.

I'd rather spend the money on a 3 year old Volkswagen Touran if I needed a 7-seater. At least that will hold its value a bit better than a Zafira and will actually move when you put your foot down.
VW Touran

I have the old type and 2 people I know have the newer type. All have had problems. Zafira A has had spare nicked, rear door check straps pull through doors, ignition switch fail at 30,000 miles wiring between centre pillar and rear doors breaks or burns out (this has been a Vauxhall trait since Cavaliers) causing at best windows not to move or worse doors not locking. Zafira B egr valve and other sensors but both Zafira A gearboxes failed within 4 years and 30,000 miles, they must be made of chocolate!
#37
We have a Golf at the moment and I would love to be able to afford a Touran. This does appear to be excellent value and you'd have no MOT to worry about for 3 years, so hot from me.

We're still skint after doing a house refurb, so no 10K available anyway.

Good advice, only problem is you are linking to Car Giant. The general opinion seems to be very much "buyer beware" for this car supermarket outfit.

I had a 1.6 Zafira, Yes underpowered and they tend to burn a lot of oil which can't be good, May be that's changed, It was nice enough to drive but the mpg when loaded with the kids wasn't the best, My idea was to reduce fuel cost having downsized from a Ford Galaxy 2.0 petrol, Wouldn't say I regretted it as the Galaxy was ageing quite a bit but didn't notice much difference in fuel consumption.

Now got another Galaxy :) My third and one of the best mpv's of it's era imo.

Is the top pic a new insignia model? (the grey not the police car) i have been thinking of getting an insignia, so it would be nice to know if they are changing
