Or don't go to store and save £148.

Last two pcs I bought cost less than what pcw want to charge you for win7 pro! What could win7 possibly offer that would make anyone want to spend this much?

M$ marketing has obviously had an affect on some people. The age old addage "more money than sense" comes to mind.

ROTFL...

think the 3 licence version was a cheaper option

Unless you're running a business or are paranoid you really dont need the pro version. Go for Home premium. I've been running the Pro version for over a month now (work for an IT company) and dont consciously use anything thats not on the Home Premium version. Misco are doing that for about £80 and there are plenty of others doing a similar deal if you Google it.

Anyone who CONSIDERS paying this for Win7 wants:

1. Taking outside
2. Shooting

There are LOADS of ways of paying far below this............ of the many many many many ways, those that spring to mind are:

1. Discounts via education / NHS / company / Armed forces
2. OEM purchase via a £3 mouse from any number of online retailers
3. Wait a couple of weeks and spend an extra £150 to get hardware with this thrown in at ma-hoo-sive discount.
4. Buy upgrade version @ £50-ish, buy cheapo XP/vista license off fleabay for peanuts.

Sorry, COLD.

Guess that why the preorder scheme for £45 was such a deal, thank god I done that :o)

I think a lot of people have lost the point of this website.

You vote on the deal, not the product - so anyone who doesn't like Microsoft, the hype or even the operating system itself shouldn't be voting cold.

Also, points on whether this is good value compared to the Home version are not relevant either. That's opinion and speculation - as far as I'm aware the Home version doesn't have the XP mode, maybe some people want/need that.

The reason for the voting is if someone is looking to buy Windows 7 Pro, is this a good deal?

sniperpenguin, your point in 3 requires spending more and 4 is false, the Pro upgrade is still in the £150 range, you're thinking of the Home Premium upgrade. However I'd be interested to know more details about purchasing a mouse and getting the OEM version, and anyone who knows about getting a discount as an educator.

Please everyone before criticising and voting cold, provide a clear cheaper alternative to the same product, with a link too.

So if something was a load of rubbish but less expensive than others sold it for you would vote hot with no thought to the product being a load of rubbish? That is NOT to say Windows 7 is a load of rubbish as I have absolutely no idea as I haven't tried it. Windows 7 might be the best thing ever - I don't know & I wonder how many others who have posted about it know any more than I do.

I have always interpreted the rating as part product & part price. I know fan/ hate boys can make this wrong but I don't see much alternative.

Chris52, a product being rubbish is purely speculative. If you think a product is rubbish, don't vote either way. If you think it's a good deal; vote hot. If you have seen it cheaper elsewhere; vote cold.

I've seen this argument pop up many times before but for me I think it's most appropriate to leave opinion out of the voting - if you think a product is crap, don't vote that way the people who are interested in the product will get the deal voted on.

The top deal on HUKD is the new Black Wii for £164.85 with a ton of extras. I hate the Wii, and would never buy one but I didn't vote it cold because I didn't like the product. I voted it hot, because I know a lot people will want that deal even if I don't and it's right that it should be brought to peoples attention. I might even have bought one as a gift even though I don't like it.

What particular feature or option do you want in Professional that menas buying that over Home Premium?.

For almost all "home" users there is nothing in Professional that justifies the extra cost.

(of course for SOME "home" users - maybe software developers or software testers - they need professional as they need it to run certain software products or connect to a Windows domain)

bigian, without multi-quoting everything :) I shall put forward the following

1. The ultimate steal (Microsoft)... just requires a valid .ac email address - £30 for Win7 Pro
http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-uk/default.aspx

2. Windows 7 Pro OEM from Scan for £107.34 ... maybe cheaper elsewhere, includes 32/64-bit
http://www.scan.co.uk/Index.aspx?NT=1-0-41-645.676.677-0

Number 3 was based on speculation based on previous trends (cheapo vista laptops, etc.... £150 mightve pushed it :) )and 4 was based on the OEM upgrade prices I was offered from vrious suppliers. I accept that these might not be available to everyone but as I said in my OP - they were the ones that came to mind! :-p

"Shop Ass"

That's a good one, especially for PC World.

There are no rules on this website. Some will vote cold if a better deal is available elsewhere, others if they dislike the product.

To be honest, it is good to have both opinions because people who dislike products can advise others as to why and it's helped me.

At the end of the day, even if this is cold but someone wants to go ahead with the purchase - they should do. This is only an opinion of others. Just think if you would have bought it other than for this website.

I voted cold - will not explain my reasoning as to why :)
